How to Check the LNB

Trying to set up the motorized system.
My locations is 34.26 N, 118.32 W (zip 91040)
Coolsat 4000 pro,
HH90, QPH031, FC90U,
Coolsat 4x1 DiseqC switch to get both L and C signals.
LNB setting in coolsat universal 10.750/11.250 for linear side and single 11.250 for circular side. How can I verify that the LNB was not damaged during shipping? The signal level I get on the receiver when pointing to 97W bird is 70% but quality is 6%. The signal level does not change when I move the dish assmebly east west. Stays at 70% level 6% quality. Changing the dish elevation doesn't help, get same results.

What can I try next?????
Please HELP

Dish size issue here for FTA

How big is your dish, I use a linear LNB with a dish from direct tv, and I am not able to get an signal quality for FTP stations, so I am told I need a bigger 30" or larger dish to get them.... can anyone confirm this? Could this be his problem too?

Calsat says he has "FC90U" so he has 36" dish... and yes a Diretv dish is way too small for FTA signals.

For Calsat - try setting the LNB type to Standard and single frequency of 10750.

To the DirecTV dish question. The only sats I have ever been able to lock with a DirecTV dish were Echo birds. Simply to small. There are some out there saying it can be done but I have yet to do it. I also think even if I did manage to find a lock the amount of signal captured would not be enough for quality picture.

As to the motorized install. The previous post is correct for lnb settings but you should be going for SatMex5 first as your true south sat. Point your dish as close to your true south as possible and if your receiver is equipped with USALS have it move to SatMex5. Now tune your dish for optimum signal. It is a linear sat. Now try hitting other sats.

Thanks for the reply,
When I go in the manu for motorized settings I don't have SatMex5, where is it located? On the list I have 97W, 101, 110
Is there a place where I can download the birds locations to my Coolsat 4000

Thanks

SatMex5 is located at 116.8. You can find an active transponder at www.lyngsat.com. I am not familiar with the CoolSat line of receivers so I can not help with making the sat entries into the receiver.

Thanks elgemcdlf,

So do you think my LNB is okay, because I'm getting 70% signal level, but very low quality. My receiver would not be pick up noise and shows it as strenght level? Like my earier post it does change, always 70%!!!!

signal level is not that important the one you want to worry with is quality if you get good quality reading you will get picture. singal reading will show even if you are pointing at the ground alot of times.
