So we bought this satellite....

Hi,

My husband bought a satellite and we may end up getting a professional to install it but we we're wondering, before we call some one how can we tell which direction it will point in? Is that the Azimuth?

we are trying to point it at Intelsat america 5 , 97W
it is a stationary fortec star classic
I went to the help page and it says elevation 44.5
azimuth 207.5
but what does that mean in relationship to the numbers on the compass
our lat is 36
long 80
i don't remember if there was anything else i am supposed to tell you guys as far as information is concerned

Thank you

Lisa

Close...

You need to add 6 degrees to that number and use that on your compass.

so 207.5 + 6 = 213.5 on the compass setting.

That would be in the SouthWest quadrant, with south at 180 and west at 270.

With the elevation at approx 45, go outside where you want to put your dish. Look to the south, then a bit to the right (approximate 213 degrees).

Look up at 45 degree angle. Any trees or anything else blocking the view to the sky? You want a clear shot for this to work...

Good luck.

Hey

Thanks

I looked around and it seems like the only good place to put the satellite is on the roof. We are still probably going to get someone to install it because the place on the roof is pretty far away from the place where we have the TV. Do you have any suggestions about getting a cable from the satellite to the TV without making our house look like it has wires hanging aroud all over the place? I consided going through the attic, but it's full of a bunch of insulation, and it doesn't have a floor layed so it's kind of scary. Is there some sort of trick I don't know about, for getting the wire to the TV ?

Thanks

Lisa

If you have a long run to make I recommend an inline amp. They are cheap (I think $8 here at Sadoun's) and you can bury the cable if you like. Other than that an attic run would prove best regardless of how rough it looks.

you could run outside, then drill a hole thru the wall where your tv is.
Thats how cable-tv installers do it sometimes.

It all depends on what you have to work with.
If you are unsure, a typical dish installer will know what to do (most often...)
