receivers

will certain receivers such as a pansat or cool sat give me more channels than any other ???

No. A FTA receiver will receive any FTA satellite broadcasts.

Different receivers will however offer different options which should be looked at carefully. Blind search is a nice feature. Componet out is another. Depnding on what you are doing multilanguage menus is a plus. AC-3 is nice. In the higher end units you have hd's that allow recording. My BEC will turn on and off for recording. Have never used it but imagine it might come in handy for someone.

There are the CI receivers which I thought were a good thing at first then thought not so good and now am back at thinking a good thing There are "clear" channels out there that are encrypted. I know a contradiction there. If you have the CAM installed you can get the channels without a smart card. Hence you will get more channels but the investment is higher also.

Kinda like the clear DigicipherII channels. They are clear but require a DigicipherII capable receiver. My Fortec came with games installed in it. See no real use for them but they are there.
