Superdish

I posted this in Arabic TV forum last week but got no response :mozilla_foot:

I have an existing DishNetwork installation with a Superdish. I think it's the 105. I want to drop DishNetwork and repoint the dish at IA5 and put in 3 FTA receivers. This is my first attempt at FTA.

Will this work?
Do I need anything else?
I believe there is a multi-switch. Do I need this? Will it work?
Which receiver is a good choice for primarily Arabic channels?
Did I miss anything?

TIA,

-kp

dish net use circular lnb so the lnbf would have to be changed my suggestion would be to get at least a 90cm dish system fromwww.sadoun.com

NO. 105 is a linear satellite. Dishnetwork uses stacked linear lnb on superdish. If the dish pointed to IA5, you would get signal but because of the design of the superdish, you would get anly vertical transponders.

You could try using the SuperDish you have as follows:

1- Take the LNBF assembly off the dish you have.
2- Get a new LNBF (#2 here)and LNBF holder (#! here)
3- Keep in mind, this LNBF holder was not designed for SuperDISH. So you might have to modify how it is attached to the feedarm of the superdish.
4- You will need a multiswitch (#1 here) This will allow you to hook up to 4 receivers.

5- Buy new FTA receivers. I recommend the Fortec CLASSIC NA. Excellent overall receiver.

Did you mean receiver or satellite? The IA-5 satellite is basically Arabic TV heaven.. As for a receiver any FTA receiver will do fine.

FTA and DishNetwork on same cable

I have 3 fta receivers set up now. The Fortec dish gave me a little trouble with the carriage bolts not 'setting' in there holes properly. Not sure if it's the bracket or the bolts. The Lifetime box seems like a perfectly OK unit. Especially for the money. Is there something more I could want from a fta receiver that I'm not getting with these boxes?

However, the main reason I did this install was because Kuwait TV was dropped from DishNetwork. It seemed that Kuwait TV was not on IA5 either. However, it does seem to be coming in. Maybe it's a different channel? But the real issue seems to be that Al Jazeera and ART are not available fta. So is it possible to leave the DishNetwork set up as well as the fta dish and run them into a switch and get both. This is a condo and running new coax to the rooms is not an option. I have 4 coax runs from outside going to the central coax distribution point. Worst case scenario maybe being leave a fta receiver and a DishNetwork receiver at the distribution point and modulate there outputs onto the coax, as they need to share with Cable TV/RoadRunner/Digital Phone.

So can I somehow switch a fta dish and a DishNetwork dish? Maybe using the loop through of the Fortec box?

Thanks for the help.

You can install an FTA dish with a Quad LNB and that should allow your 105 DSS along with your FTA. Simply run each port to a seperate receiver. If you go motorized (you would need to for this application) the FTA receiver would control dish movement. Assuming you do not wish to view multiple sats at the same time. If a portion of your programming comes from circular sats use the Invacom Quad (circular and linear) LNB on the same FTA dish

DishNetwork International Channels / FTA

Thanks for the reply...
I have learned that the DN Arabic channels are mainly on 121 and that is a FSS(whatever that is?) and uses linear LNB's. And as it turns out I could only get the all the transponders by going through the DP34 switch. Straight into the DN rcvr did not fully function. The 121 fss lnb only has one output and when discovered by the DP34 shows as a "feed". I'm wonder if that other switch would switch the fss satellite?

Anyway, I think I figured out that there isn't really a way to make it all work.

Thanks,

-kp
