stripped hex screw! help!

Hey guys!

I know a lot of you guys around here have good knowledge of construction technique so I got a stripped hex screw on my satellite mount.. I have to take it out in order to level the darn pole but it's hopelessly stripped.. (actually my dad stripped it by using a drill)

So is there anyway to get this sucker out?

Is there enough of the head left to catch it with a pair of vice-grips? If not, the only other way is to drill it out.

Its tightened and drilled in pretty darn good. I have one of those vice grips but it slips and i think the grip is a little too big for it.

How would i "drill it out"?

Hey Druze,
you drill it out by putting a center punch in the middle of the screwhead and then drilling a hole in the middle of the bolt but smaller then the bolt.
If you have a bolt extracter you can now use that by scewing it into the hole and turning out the bolt.If not you use a drill that is sized to just leave the threads. Then you remove that bu using a thread chacer or tap.
Good luck,Reinhold.

you can use a left hand drill bit center punch. the drill bit is made to grab the screw while you are dilling and will pull the screw out as you drill. if don't come out while you are drilling just use a screw extractor to remove it when you are finshed drilling
