I'd read up on this site:

http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/p...th/index.shtml

Their chart at that site says for LA (I used 90210, the only LA zip code I know of  ) says to put the dish at 159 Degrees on a compass, the elevation of the dish on it's bracket at 50 degrees, and skew (rotate the dish) about 84.

I've never installed a Dish Network system, but that should be a start.
I know there is a signal locater screen on the receiver that guides you thru the setup. I was told it works real well.

My question

See, I can see about that.. but What I don't understand is the compass...
You said "Their chart at that site says for LA (I used 90210, the only LA zip code I know of ) says to put the dish at 159 Degrees on a compass, the elevation of the dish on it's bracket at 50 degrees, and skew (rotate the dish) about 84. "

No I put it on about 50 degree(*up&down*), now, on a compass what degree do i put. is it 110 or what... If someone show me a good compass to use that will show me exactly where to point... that would really help me.. I'm really new to this...

Thanks
DNG

you point the compass so that the needle points N. Find the 159 tick on the compass and and look in that direction. find some landmarks (trees, houses, etc) that are in that direction. Point the dish that way (159). At this point dont worry about the satellites' position in space (110, 101, etc). Just find 159.

This will get you close. Be prepared to very slowly move the dish around while watching the signal meter. Fortunately, this a much easier pointing task than an FTA system.

I know he sales them, but I'm looking to purchase one that would be good and easy for me to use, basiclly, one that will show me its 159, so i point there... and use signal meter...

Also one more question, I saw a good signal meter that shows you what signal your on.. I know there is 2 of them but they are like 450 bucks each, and If im using it once in a while and I don't need this amazing one, but I want something good thats not so professional.. anyone have anything I can purchase for a good price that will show me if I have the right signal and all..

Thanks
DNG

Rainman, let me ask you a question about this...

the dishnetwork says install at following
160 Azimuth,
49 Elevation,
85 Skew,

The elevation is the up and down, the azimuth is what I find on the compass, and whats the skew? and also the elevation and azimith Im right correct?

Thanks
DNG

Go find a Boy Scout in your neighborhood.
He'll have one and even show you how to use it.
