help with SF95kit - can't lock on anything

Help!! I spend 2 days trying to get my SF95 kit, 90cm Fortec dish, Stab HH100 motor, dreambox 500, inacom snh-031 to lock or sync to any satellite.

I have checked and recheck all my settings:

I'm at
Location: 40.548586 N, 122.333932 W

So, my understanding is this is what my setting should be:

Elevation: 36.4
azimuth (left/right) 143.9
lnbf polarization (-26.6)
dish elevation: 23.7

True south should be -16 from 180, so 164.

I have been trying to tune using my receiver but can't seem to lock on to any satellite.

- Motor will rotate to different satellite locations.

I've tried to tune to a satellite closest , which from my understand is near 40.54, my location. Is this right?

Question is, what's my most likely problem. Could it be my settings or interference from my dish (need more elevation)?

Please give me some advice.

thanks,
Chuck

Thanks, I'll try that.
Would you recommend just using the tuner to get the signal, or should I try and use the satellite meter I have? My tuner allows to position east or west and see the signal strength.
Also, I checked my pole and it seems to be 1 degree off, is this a problem?

Thanks a lot!
Chuck

with motorize system pole needs to be perfectly sraight to trac the sats correctly. tuner should work ok to get signal.rainman

Your location latitude is 40.54 so the motor should be set to the same elevation, 40.54. Dish elevation would be 23.8. For motorise system leave the LNB skew at 0.

Thanks for the help. I made that change, but still not able to lock onto anything. Is it possible I have a bad LNBF? I've gotten good signal strength before but it's not able to lock onto anything.

Thanks,
Chuck

possible but not likely probaly still alignment problem these things can be a pain sometimes once you get ignitial seting try tweaking elevation and east to west a little at a time to get signal. move 1/16" at a time remember you're trying to hit a object 22000 miles away. so just be paitent and you will get there.rainman :mozilla_innocent:

Rainman is right. It is not an easy task. Maybe try without the motor to make sure that things are working correctly. I was at same situation, thinking that LNB is bad. Good choice for you will be G10R sat at 123W. This sat is just one degree to your location. On the compass it will be 181 degrees, set the dish elevation to 43.2 and leave the LNB at zero skew. Try TP at 11787 V SR 25000. This TP has about 60% signal quality. Also see topic http://sadoun.net/viewtopic.php?t=5060&highlight=

What to do when my signal quality (SNR on my receiver) won't go above 60% but my signal strenght (AGC) is high 80%+?

No matter what I do or where I point, I can't get my SNR to go up.

Thanks,
Chuck

60% is not bad go ahead and scan for channels should lock i have some channels locking at 39% signal quality. rainman

I locked some channels at 32-35% quality. Maybe the picture is not perfect but it is watchable.

Unfortunately my receiver (Dreambox 500) won't lock on anything at these or the 60% snr levels.

thanks,
Chuck
