Help with my S1 stationary system
Got my S1 system and tried to set it up for G3C (95W) entire Saturday.
Looks like I am still far away from getting the satellite. But I beleive I can do it just like all of you Gurus.
Got several questions:
I got SF95 the cheap satellite finder, I do the connection with dish and receiver (f start lifetime classic) according to the direction (the correct direction), when trun on the receiver, there is no beeping sound, neither the background light or any hand movement, I aimed my dish to 95W G3C approxinately.
--- Does this mean I have a bad LNBF? or bad receiver? or Bad dish??(I get level reading as either 0 or 6%, only 1 time with 13%, whatever direction to point, even the right direction of G3C)
---- Is there a way to find out if LNBF or receiver is a working one?
I am in 37.5N and 77.3W, for G3C, my caculation is 207.6 + 10 =217.6
and 42.8 with tilt 21.6.
- --Anything wrong with those above values?
Thanks. I will keep trying.

For your location at 37.5N and 77.3W to point to G3C 95W you will nee to set your dish (no motor) elevation to 42.7, azimuth to 207.7 and LNB skew 21.6

Druze Tito,Bobcat,vj9999 or anyone has a thought on this
Thanks Alfi.
Do I need to consider magnetic deviation? I got +10 in central Virginia.
Anyway, I have tried azimuth from 200 to 225 with a 1 degree increament for an approxiate elevation between 41 and 44, with an 0.5 increament. I got nothing really shown, the signal level is always 0.
1. My sky view for G3C is pretty good.
2. My connection of LBN and my Fortec Lifetime Classic receiver is with a 100 feet cable from Sadoun. Any reason I need to worrry that my cable is too long for a good signal?
3. I still think my Fortec LBN from Sadoun is not a functioning one. As BobKat told me, I set LBN as UNI or 10600 on my receiver and set TP as 11780H for the working TP on G3C.
Is there a way to test my LBN is a good one or bad one?
Thanks in advance. [/b]

Hey shark:
If your signal finder is not lighting up and no meter movement either it is defective or it is not getting the voltage from the receiver. I assume you have the LNB connected to "IF IN" and not "ANT IN"; a common mistake made by tons of people.
Try bypassing the signal finder altogether and drag the receiver and a small TV out to the dish. Put the receiver onto an active transponder for G3C and look for the "Quality" level indicator. G3C is not that hard a satellite to pull in.
There is really no foolproof way of testing an LNB, but it is probably good.

Thanks Kat
Yes, I connect my dish LNB to "LNB IN DC 13/18V" on my Fortec Lifetime Classic NA receiver. I always connect everything before turning on power and turn off before I change the connection.
You don't think a 100 feet cable will weaken the signal, right?
About Elevation angle, I find it is hard to make mask really vertical, so I can not rely on the angle readings. What I did is to tight a thread (A)across my dish in its long axis and in the center of the dish, I hang a small object with a thread B. I assume that the angle between A and B is my elevation.

I did this as put TP Freq =11780 H (one working TP from G3C)
LNB type = 10600
LNB power = 13/18
22KHZ =Auto
I also tried LNB =UNI and with its default values for LNB pwer and 22KHZ.

eshark,
Are you trying to set the motorized system or just the dish without the motor? Maybe I missed sometning here.

No, 100 feet is not too long a run.

I think he has the stationary system; no motor.

Yes Alfi, mine is a stationary system. I try to point it to G3C. It should be a little easier job than yours.
BTW from the website, I get 207.7 and then I got deviation +10, so it is 217.7 on my compass.
Thanks, Kat. So the cable is Ok, receiver looks OK, I will try it again sometimes this week.

Eshark,
Most FTA stuff on G3C is for C-band dishes, you have S-1 system so you wont be able to get it. The Ku band stuff on G3C is the DirectTV (non FTA) channels. Chose something like G 10R 123W or T 5 at 97W.
Use this page http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installati...Calculator.htm (setup for stationery systems only) to calculate the dish elevation, azimuth and LNB skew.
For T 5 (Telstar 5 / IA 5) at 97W the dish elevation is 41.9, azimuth (geographical) is 210.5 (97W) and LNB skew 23. Try TP 11787 V, SR 25000.
Good luck.
