Longitude vs Compass reading

Could you please help me with the following?
Facts: My longitude is 123.3. True South is 180 on compass -17.2 degrees. The G10R satellite is at 123 W, almost exactly at true South.
Intelsat Americas 5 is at 93 W. How many degrees is that on my compass having in mind that N=0, E=90, S=180 and W=270? Is there an equation that I can use to recalculate the position of a satellite to 360 degrees scale (reading) on my compass?
Thank you,
Zozon

Use this site's calcuator...
http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installati...Calculator.htm

You have one of your numbers, type in the other one (LAT) and pick the satellite. You know you magnetic adjustment, just use the number shown for Azimuth(Geometric) and you have what you are looking for.

actually IA 5 is at 97.0 degs W. Yea there probably is a formula.. it probably requires some tough math and trigonometry... the basics is that to move from 123 west to 97 w requires that you move the dish 26 degrees east.. but this doesn't correspond to a compass heading though. Your best bet is to use Sadoun's calculator or a much more detailed one at http://www.satlex.de

There is another website that does the calculation for you http://monsterfm.com/engineering/pointdish.htm
