Diagnostic Help Needed

Dear Technical Engineers,

Installing a 60CM FTA Dish and Stab HH90, no switch, direct connect with the funky fisher price red and green 0.1 db universal LNB. Actually improved signal 15-25 points over a 0.3 db lnb.

Signal readings are currently: AMC 1 78 , AMC 2 82 FTA channel scan locked and added some channels but do not come up , AMC 3 74 , AMC 4 84 Channels added and actually see some channels, Echostar 1-9 85 average signal strength, Galaxy 10R 82 , Niniq 1,3 and 2 85 channels added but can not view , Intel 5-705 74 , Koreasat 2 86.

All Channel searches for FTA only. Why can I not pull in more FTA stations? I have good signal strength. Only AMC 4 has both Signal Strength and Signal Quality good. It's at 86. Others are within a couple of AMC 4, so what can I do to improve?

SatMatt

It might be the .... " small " DISH !!!

Hi there ,,,
" Installing a 60CM FTA Dish " ??? huh ???
you meant 60 cm dish = 23.6 inches dish ?
most FTA satellites signal required a minimum of 31 inches = 80cm ...
maybe that's why you got g00d signal but pictures VIDEO couldn't appear because the dish is too ... small !!!
Let's others suggest you what to do from here ...
It's my opinion and I might be wrong so please pardon me , ~

g00d lucks surfing the sats FREE FTA channels ,

Best Wishes ...
Benny ,,,

benny is correct, if you want to pick up anything FTA, you need a larger dish (at least 90cm).

a few notes:

-signal strength doesnt mean anything. only the quality meter matters.

-some of the sats you list are not visible from the 'midwest', your indicated location. From the midwest, you will never get Koreasat or Intelsat xxx. see this link for everything viewable from your location:
http://www.lyngsat.com/america.html

-If you have a signal on AMC4, you may be getting some of the stonger FTA signals, but are not aligned to the satellie arc. see this link:
http://www.sadoun.net/viewtopic.php?t=5028

-The secret to getting a signal off of the Nimiq and Echostar sats is known as a "subscription". see these links:

I thought you would ... :mozilla_tongue:
at 1st , i thought you used Dishnetwork dish 23 inches times something to play with FTA satellites ... :mozilla_foot: #-o My bad !!!
Does your receiver have Power Scan function ... Give it a go !!! It will scan all the frequencies of the specific sat and thus more channels to your liking.
g00d lucks, man !!!

Benny,,,

PS: Is your mast " perfected " VERTICAL plumb ? please check it ...
Again it only is my opinion, please pardon it !!! ~~

If the lower the DB is on a Universal LNB is better, will it improve signal quality or signal strength or both?
