OK, I'm so angry and fed up that I have to vent. Hopefully the mods will leave this up as it does have some value. I live in Philadelphia and I've been trying for two months to find an
installer to install my Fortec 90cm dish and
STAB HH-100 motor. It's time to name the names of the 3 "installers" who have totally screwed me. So if you live in my area (which apparently nobody does..but, oh well) don't waste your time calling these idiots.
Idiot#1:
Gemini Satellite. On the phone the guy said that he had 20 years experience with a BUD and
C-band and that it would be no problem to do my install. A friend of mine in Canada had sent me a Pansat receiver with 5 sats programmed in and he said I'd just have to tweak the positions. The first thing Mr. Gemini Satellite managed to do was to delete everything that my friend had done. After he deleted the first thing he repeated his mistake two minutes later and says "oops" he didn't mean to do that again. Long story short....the guy was in my house for NINE HOURS and when he left all I was getting was 110 and 119, which I am already paying DirecTV for. Wasted day.
Idiot#2:
APEX ELECTRIC or ELECTRONICS. I told the guy on the phone, very specifically that I had a motorized dish that I needed installed and aligned. He says no problem and puts his secretary on the line to get my address. I have to wait 8 days till he can get to me. So......on the appointed day a guy knocks on my door. I show him the equipment and the first thing he says is, "oh, motor, the installs I do nobody ever has a motor". I know I'm in trouble. I explain things to him and he says he thinks he can get the job done. Two and a half hours later he comes down off the roof carrying my 90cm dish AND the 18" dish that was up there getting 110 and 119. He says the dish is hitting the edge of the roof when it rotates so he can't do the install. Took him two and a half hours to figure that out. BUT, he says he knows a solution, he'll bring a different mount. When can he do it?? Another 8 days later. So I say ok. But now I have NO satellite tv because he took apart my working dish to use the mount, or something like that. So I have LESS than I started with. The next day I take a look at the parts he brought down off the roof. One U-bolt is missing from my motor mount and the other is badly bent and there is a nut screwed half way on and STRIPPED. I can't get the nut off. There's more to this idiots story but my fingers are getting tired and I'm sure you get the idea on Idiot#2 so let's move on to #3.
Idiot#3:
JTSI Satellite Systems Electronics in Cinnaminson, NJ.
I talk to "Joe" on the phone and tell him very, very, very specifically what the job is. He sounds great, says he has only done two motorized installs but he has a
Birdog Satellite Finder and he's sure he can get the job done. I have to wait a week for him to come out. Says he'll come out Sunday at noon after he and the missus go to church. What an All-American guy!! So I wait the week, I buy ten cinder blocks for my roof mount and I put the whole thing together in my dining room so I can show him how it all goes together. So, Sunday rolls around and at 11:15am I get a phone call. It's Joe. He says that he told his son to call me on Saturday but he just found out that his son forgot. Says he can't make it out today but that "MAYBE" he'll call me next week "SOME TIME" to set up another appointment. He's really busy you see. Nice of him to call me 45 minutes before he's supposed to be here. I'm very pissed of course. Then the guy has the balls to get an attitude WITH ME. He's got an attitude with me, can you believe it. He says, "well, whatever ya wanna do" like I"M THE JERK. What an ........you fill in the blank, I'm trying to keep this clean but you can probably imagine what I'd like to do to all these jerks. Needless to say my relationship with "Joe" is over.
I know you want to know why I don't do it myself. I'm afraid of heights and the roof is probably about a 40-foot climb.
So for the last week or so I have a lovely 90cm dish in my dining room, attached to my roof mount and motor. Hey, I hooked it all up to my receiver and experimented with USALS and the dish moves in the right direction and everything.
Now I'm trying to get a friend of mine to come out and do the install. I have done many, many hours of reading on this forum and others so I think I can walk the guy thru the install on my roof talking to him on cell phones with me down at the receiver, and, I've got my own Birdog now. This has been one of the worst experiences of my life. I don't understand how these type people run a business. They can't last. What goes around comes around. So NEVER EVER use these three companies if you're in the Philly area. They are the pits and I hope they fall off the next roof they're on. Thanks for listening and wish me luck. Yours truly, NO SATELLITE TV!!
