A possible tree in my way(tell me yes or no)

Hey I have this big pine tree off to my right. But it seems clear for south and more east. There is Galaxy 10R I want and it is at 181 Degrees. Tell me this. The signal coming down from the sat, how wide is it? If it isn't that wide then the tree wouldn't be obscuring the signal. So tell me how the signal looks and if something 5 feet over from where the sat is would it block the signal? I guess the signal wouldn't be some 1 ft beam coming down. Anyone know about this? Like I said my south looks clear. I might just trim that tree back. Or maybe I will have to get a tri-pod on the roof. Man I have spent enough time on this pole cemented in the ground lol. And money for that matter. I wanted to buy a tv top reciever next not back-pedal to a tri-pod for the roof. So let me know if there is hope with a tree to the south-western area. Off a few degrees to my 180 south. And if I can still get that 181 Degree sat. Ok I hope to here your ideas soon. Sincerely Jerry_Sattellite wannabe. :mozilla_cool:

If you even *think* a tree might be blocking the signal, it probably is...

I'm in the same boat. Neighbor 2 doors down has this huge@ss tree, and it stops the signal of g10r for me. Not much I can do. I'd have to go out almost to the street in front of my house to get around it. I'm lucky to get what I do.

You can see the beginning of the tree just above the pool in the distance, to the left... dish is looking at AMC5 in this picture.

Jerry the best way to check if trees will be in your way (besides actually trying to find a signal) is find out the offset amount of degrees for your dish. If you have a Fortec 90cm, the offset is 24.62 degrees. So calculate the elevation for G10R ; lets say for example it turns out to be 30 , then find the offset, and add both. So 30+24 = 54. Or 55 we can say.

So point your dish to G10R's azimuth and lift your dish on it's scale to 55 and the dish will exactly be pointing to where the signal is coming from. Like this you can determine if you will catch signal.

Of course, you will get no signal and quality like this, because offset dishes work when they are offset. You would have to subtract 55-24 again to get 30 and thats where you should leave the dish for signal.

to pmb1010:

I see you have one of those nice classic Fortec LNBs with the 0.5db. I want those so much, I like the casing much better than the new 0.4 lnb fortecs.

that picture is old. I'm using an Invacom at this time.

the fortec .5 is on the shelf. I'm waiting to find a 36 to 40" dish & put up a 2nd one. I'll fix the 30" at G10R if I can figure out a way to hide it in the front yard.

I think that new cemented in pole might be my new flag pole rofl. Putting it to some good use while I can get the money up for a tripod. About that dish. It is a Fortec 90 cm. I didn't hear anything about all those settings on Sadoun. I read the motor is set to your Longitude. Mine is 39.9 or 40. Then the dish is the Longitude minus 6.24. So I set the dish at 33.7. All what you said is foreign to me. I am trying to understand it though. I don't see where I find the elevation to that satellite. it isn't say it on the lygst page. At the end of all the figuring you said lift your dish on it's scale to 55. You think my 33.7 is way off or what? I haven't found documentation on your settings. Let me know Thanks

Druze was just giving you a way to visually check to see if the tree was in the way. A sort of dead reckoning to find the satellite.

Elevation values can be found using this calculator:

I think you made mention of a motor. I'd suggest setting up your antenna first by itself and finding G10R. then adding the motor later.
