Sat Dish is on a pole, make it tight as a drum right?

Hey is it feasible or practical to have a sate dish on a 12 ft pole cemented in? Well first off tomorrow I am putting guy wires on it(radio shack calls them guy not guide as I always used to call them) So if the sat moves a couple inches like a flag pole I would think you would lose your signal. I will make it tight with this cable I just bought and turnbuckles. Has anyone ever did that? Not to mention I get to fine-tune the plumb on it now since I screwed into my base cemented in coupler that higher 12 foot or so pole. ok more questions later lol. Thanks Jerry_Satellite WANNABE Sat Knowledgable!! :mozilla_cool:

Can't say I've ever done that but I have mounted many dishes on free standing TV antenna towers; sometimes 30 feet up. I've never had a callback because of wind movement causing signal loss. I would say your 12 foot pole idea is OK. BTW, "guy" wires is the correct term.

Hey thanks. Guy wires seems to lose everyone I say it to. 99 percent say guide. In fact I never met anyone who called them Guy Wires lol. I will start using the term without explanation from now on when possible. Oh nice a dish on a tower. That would look real sharp too. Impressive. Right now I am working with that TwinHan card and software. A pci card situation. I still don't know how to set the east and west limit. And now I am wanting to try and lock in Galaxy 10R at 123.0°W. I don't see a place to put that in the software. If your familiar please let me know. I am calling Sadoun back now to ask. And I will place a hundred forum questions if I have to. The day I get a picture will be a miracle. I won't give up. I am going to buy a tv top reciever from these guys too since they say they are easier to lock on. They process the signal faster Sadoun Techs say. But what about my fast pc processor? I would think it would be fast enough. Though I don't think this has the same Blind search capabilities as the tv top type. Hauppage has a card I know that has it's own processor on the card. That might be nice. OK off to call Sadoun! :mozilla_cool:

I think what you are hearing is "guyed".

Example: "My tower is now guyed, so it is now much more stable in the wind".

And yes, in order for the tower to be guyed, it needs to have guy wires installed.

Us amateur radio operators - "ham guys" (pun intended) are used to the terminology.

oh ok lol. I am KD6AGV. No ham stuff at this time. I sold my 2 meter and never used my extra credentials as of yet. Maybe someday. Now my priority is this satellite system. And with Guyed. Well I don't think the peopl I am talking to think Guyed. Most or all are thinking Guide. That is my assumption. Though then again I may be wrong. Now back to brainstorming whether I should buy an expensive tripod for this thing. Cutting limbs off this pine is probably to no avail. I haven't destroyed it's appearance yet so I should stop now. I think I have to go on the roof with it. Plus I will get more sats anyway. Chalk one up to experience. I gave the pole in the cement the ole college try. And I just don't think it will cut the mustard as they say. Always appreciate feedback on my questions. =D>
