Cannot reach this satellite from this location???

Hey what does cannot reach this satellite from this location mean? I am trying to get a picture on this pc card system with the motor but I haven't did it yet. That cannot reach satellite from this location comes up. I even try and point the dish around and I can't get any readings from the sat finder. That cheap one but only when I point it toward my dss dish's. Which is interference of some sort. So I turn on the software at the time searching for a satellite right? Turn on an LNB? Universal or what? Anyway as you can see I have a million questions. I wish someone could produce a great tutorial on this. In quicktime or something. Anyway just answer cannot reach this satellite from this location meaning first. I hope I didn't get faulty equipment. This has been over 30 days and I am sure they would say I am out of luck or something. I hope I can dial this in. Thanks, Jerry_Satellite :mozilla_cool:

a QuickTime tutorial is a really good idea. I will have to think about that...

As for your question, the "cannot reach this satellite" message means that whatever sat you are trying to point to is out of range of the motor in relation to its reference position.

What is the reference motor for the satellite? This should be your south satellite. are you using USALS to move the dish? what satellite are you attempting to move to?

Also be sure that you are moving to sats in West longitute. Many of these recievers default for europe and list sats for East longitude.

How do you have your longitude set? I am pretty sure in Twinhan's software, longitude in North America has to be set as a negative number. So I am at 88.1 West so I would enter -88.1 .

Give that a try.

I don't think I have a longitute set yet. I am setting it on USALS. I think I need setup Free-to-air Dish's for Dummies here lol. I dialed in the numbers for this thing. My dish elevation and motor setting. I figured out the magnetic declination. At any rate this all seems foreign. I am not sure what I have to do first. I can find true south and put the dish and the motor at that. Not sure if I keep it their for some reason then search for sats. I haven't set any far left or right point. I haven't really did anything. Now my cousin pointed my motor and dish right at this one signal but I think he was supposed to leave the dish true south then find the sat. I don't know but I can't find a tutorial from a to z on this that makes it easy really. The day I get a signal is the day I will celebrate.

Yeah, for USALS you'll need to enter your longitude first before you can scan for others. You only need to get a signal on the south sat first, then the dish will (theoreticaly) move along the arc to the rest of them.

Your both adding to my cognizance on this thing

I appreciate the feedback on this. About that negative number on the longitude. One of the owners of Sadoun I think he was or a tech, anyway he said no to the negative before it. I will ask him again to verify. But maybe that is for something else. If your sure please elaborate. I am calling Sadoun again. If I have to call 5 more times. Hey I am ordering a tv top reciever soon. They can take a few minutes with me on this. I really think they need to dial in a all in one tutorial. Quicktime too. Or maybe it is just tough for this pc card reciever. I am slowly grasping the concept here. Oh by the way my Longitude 237.8. Sounds odd but I was told it is 360 minus the Longitude. this 237.8 was given to me by a pro at Sadoun. If anyone knows why the 360 is taken away let me know. I will ask them later. But the more I ask here the less I have to bother them with. I want to know since I can wrap my brain around this later easily. I want to know the answers behind the questions.

your longitude is 122.1. enter this into your "my location" or something similar field. Generally this is a -number for positions west of 180. So depending on your software, you may need to try both.

your south satellite is G10R at 123 degrees.

Take a compass and point your dish and to around 181 degress south, elevation 43.9. Play around with the aiming until you get a signal, then lock everything down. then start pointing at other satellites.

sorry I put that Longitude high number. You are correct. 122.1. He said .2 but that is no descrepancy worth mentioning. I will try that negative number thing. I will keep it in mind irrespective what the tech said. I trust your techy knowledge on this one lol. We will see if this software utilizes that. Kevision not a bad name. I would tell you to get Kevision.com but it is taken. Maybe by you lol. Could be. lol

yep, it's mine :mozilla_laughing:

Hey, just a suggestion so that you get the most help possible. Maybe you can post any future questions in this thread rather than start a new thread. We'll monitor it.
