T-5 (IA5) and SatMex Satellites

Recently I received a 1M dish from Sadoun and installed it on my SG2100 motor. I waited a few weeks until I received a new QPH-031 from Invacom for testing. This is the new Ku C/L LNB. I installed it on the dish, aligned the dish to my true south (AMC5) and performed a blind scan. I am getting anything from 75%-82% quality here. I was able to get more active transponders from Live Feeds and, of course, the channels on AMC5 based on Lyngsat stats. Doing the same test with a Fortec Star Universal LNB and blind scan, this LNB could not find those additional transponders. Seems like the .3db LNB makes a big difference with a big dish.

Now to a real test. I pointed my trusty dish to T-5 and I was able to get some very week transponders from the receiver, 20%-30%, even less, on T-5. I performed a blind scan and found several more transponders that my Pansat 2700A did not have on it original configuration. That translated into some 62 channels, most of them unable to pixale well on my TV due to poor quality. Because it was raining yesterday I couldn't install the .4db Universal LNB for further testing on the same satellite, but it seems strange that the quality is simply low. I adjusted the dish just to make sure that I was not off by much but it seems not to provide significant increase in quality. Checked again against AMC5 just to make sure that I did not missaligned the dish. A-OK. I know I was hitting the right satellite based on the channels I got and compared them against Lyngsat but I know there are more channels that I am not picking up.

Can't even pick an active transponder on SatMex 5.

I would like to hear from the experts some recommendations as to improve my chances of getting more channels. What can I do to improve it.

PANSAT 2700A
SG2100A Motor
Star Fortec 1M Dish
Invacom QPH-031
77.0W
39.0N
Olney, Maryland
Pole Plummed, verified several times against the new weights.

I will provide pictures later on of my new settings. Replaced the 36cm dish with 1M and Star Fortec Universal LNB with new Invacom QPH-031.

Hoping that Sadoun will consider me favorable for testing new C/Ku LNB.

Thanks.

Wow - you're really thrown a lot of hardware at your setup...

Well, what do you get for AMC9 and AMC3?
I'd suggest rather that rather then going over over to IA5 see what you get - try a couple thats close(er) to your Most-South sat.

I only have 80cm dish and Invacom (prev Fortec .5 or .6 LNB) and I got a bazillion stations from IA5 on both of my LNB's.

I'm a little east of you, our co-ordinates are very close.

You've gone this far, why not try a different receiver?

Hi PMB. Yesterday I worked on the antenna before the big storm and adjusted elevation on the dish just a bit. Did not mess with the motor but just a bit using the manual button while looking at my meter for better signal strenght. Then I went inside and looked at the signal quality. I started nudging the motor using the USALS until I got the strongest of the signals on the stronger TP. Nudged to 77.7W just .7 degress (not bad). Then I started checking satellites and transponders last night and I got a lot of channels. You're right. The only thing that I really didn't like while doing a Blind Scan on SatMex 5 is that this satellite is so very closed to 119 that I got a lot of its TP's. I am going to delete the TP's that it found just to have the 2 TP's that come setup on the receiver and see what I can get from SatMex 5. I think I hit it right on the Clarke Belt.

I left it like that because my Air Conditioning Unit (blower) went dead on me 5 days ago. To hot inside the house. I am getting the motor on the blower replaced tonight.

I am thinking about getting the Pansat 3500S and test it. I heared from another forum that Coolsat has dropped their support on their products. I may stick to Pansat or perhaps other receivers.

What receivers are you testing?

I became a satellite distributor but I have not set shop yet. Still shopping and negotiating around.

I'll keep everyone posted and post images at a later time.

Thanks for the help.
