Circular / Linear LNB setup with DiseqC switch, how?

Hello,

I just set up my system about a week ago, and thought I would be able to receive FTA from IA5 as well as the unencrypted radio channels from the Echostar and Nimiq satellites using my 90cm dish and Universal LNBF. While I'm wondering why I am not finding any of these radio channels, however, I am receiving GOL TV from one of the Echostars (I think?), I come across something in the forum about circular polarization LNB's.. OOPS! I guess I can't receive those Echostar transponders with my linear LNB.....

Would the following setup be possible:

1) 90cm dish with STAB-HH100 motor and Universal LNBF to receive all FTA linear satellites on the clarke belt, connected to "LNB1" of a DiSEqC 4x1 switch.
2) an old Dish network dish with dual LNB for the 110 and 119 orbital slots, no motor, but pointed at the 110 and 119 sats, connected to "LNB2" and "LNB3" on the DiSEqC switch.

Is this possible with my Fortec Ultra Lifetime receiver? And if yes, can I still slave my Twinhan 102g off of the Fortec and just use the Fortec to select the DiSEqC port?

Thanks!
Robbert

Yes you should be able to accomplish #1.
You might be able to accomplish #2, but those combination 110/119 dishes & lnb's might not work with disqec...

You are better off simply tie-wrap & taping a Circular LNB to your 90cm dish LNB, and use a diseqc switch to select it. Then you can adjust in the setup menus of the Fortec to adjust the satellites positon to correct for the offcenter position of the circular LNB. For example, you might need to adjust the satellite's postion setting to 105 to make up for the 5 degrees it's "off".
Then you dont need to fool around trying to get a [potential] issue with incompatable switch in using dish network dual lnb.

Downside - you have to move the dish when it changes Radio channels. With a secondary fixed dish, it wont be necessary to use motor settings and its faster.

Thanks for your quick reply. I thought about taping a circular LNB to my current linear LNB, but I was concerned about the alignment of both LNB's. Is there anything tricky I should be aware of? Obviously, both LNB's must "point" towards the focal point of the dish, so do I have to put a little wedge between the two LNB's so that the second one actually points towards the focal point of the dish? Or is it not that critical?

As for circular LNB's, should I just get the Dish Network DishPro Dual LNBF, as advertised on sadoun.com? Or should I use something else? I was thinking of the quad linear and circular LNB (the new one), but since I also want to point at some Atlantic sats, I think I need the low frequency (and the univ. LNB in that case).

Thanks!
Robbert

The great thing is that it doesnt need to be so critical placing the circular lnb. The dish net transponders in combination with a 30 inch dish, the signal reception is very strong. So being off a little bit is not a big deal at all. You'll get 99% reception very easily.

Since you will be moving the dish with a motor, a single lnb will work just fine.

Look for someone that upgraded to dual lnb, neighbors, trash, etc. they are all over the place for free.

Thanks! I will give it a shot with the circular LNB and some duct tape.

My neighbor upgraded to a "superdish". So when they took down the old single lnb dish, I asked for it, and got it for free.

Yeah, nice neighbor I'd say.
