Newbie needs help with new system.

I am new to the satellite scene and I just purchased the M-3 Motorized USB Laptop FTA Choice Set which includes:
~ VisionDTV StarBox USB receiver
~ Satcontrol SM3D12 Motor
~ 31" FS80P Dish
~ Universal 0.4dB Single KU LNBF.
I live in NW Pa and my longitude and latitude are 42 and 80.
I installed the mast making sure everything was level and plumb, calculated true south at 190, set the scale on the motor clamp to 42, dish elevation at 40, found the southernmost satellite (AMC5 79W) and rotated the motor pole to -1.15 using the formula (Satellite longitude minus longitude of my location x 1.15). then mounted and connected everything.
After installing the software I set up the LNB as follows:
LNB Power - ON
LNB Type - Universal
DiSEqC - Enabled
everything else is disabled
On the Channel Setup config I set the dish as dish 1 and the dish type to DiSEqC the LNB Setup to the one I configured. My Signal Strength is at 40 and the Quality about 32.
After that I have no idea how to operate the software. Iv'e tried the help file, looked through the forums and went to Twinhans web site but no luck.
What do the 'Drive East' 'Drive West' and 'Set Drive East/West Limit' do and how are they operated?. I am a newbie and I apologize for my ignorance but could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

These you should use to move the dish. Since you are at 80W, you can start by moving the motor about 1 degree to AMC 5 at 79W.

Once motor stops, select on of the live transponders on AMC 5 (see http://www.lyngsat.com/amc5.html ) If you don't see the quality (or low quality), stand behind the motor and move it very slowly by hand to adjust for true south.

Thanks for your reply. I tried your suggestion but moving the motor doesn't seem to change the signal strength at all, I also tried adjusting the dish elevation. You thinlk this could be faulty hardware?

It is double hard to install a motorized system relying on the StarBOX/PC alone. You will have to be very slow when moving the dish and be patient to give the PC enough time to process the signal.

Best if you can align the motor/dish using a regular stand alone DVB receiver / TV. Once all is aligned, hook it up to the StarBOX and go from there.

I don't think you have faulty equipment. It just takes more patience. :mozilla_laughing:

Curious

Did you ever get the system to work? I have the same setup without the motor. I get the same signal readings as you did and no reception at the Jersey shore.
