Linear and Cirular LNB with DiSEqC switch

I have a motor connected to my satellite receiver. The motor controls a dish with two LNBs, one circular and one linear. I have a 4-way DiSEqC switch (S-DS41) to switch between LNBs. The motor moves properly and the swtich seems to swith properly as well; however, the signal is baddly degraded for the linear LNB. The circular LNB picks up perfectly, but the linear LNB only brings in distortion. I know the LNB is pointed correctly because if I bypass the switch everything comes in clear. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong or if there is a specific setting I need to change.

Thank you,
MDProuty

Re: Linear and Cirular LNB with DiSEqC switch

sound like you have a bad switch. Also, make sure you installe the switch between the lnbfs and the motor. Have you tried all of the 4 ports?
One certain thing is the signal is degraded when using switch. It might be the linear signal that you get is marginal. In other words, without the switch, it works, but once the switch is used it does not.

I thought it might be a bad switch, too. The circular LNB works fine on port 2. I tried to use the linear LNB on port 2, but the same results were obtained. I tried the linear LNB with several satellites, also. The same thing happens with them all. The switch is a Sadoun switch.

The problem could be that your Linear LNBF is not aligned correctly to the satellite. Since the switch degrades the signal a little, it becomes obviouse that the signal reaching the receiver is not strong enough.

I may recommend the following:

1- Make sure your LNBF is aligned perfectly. What is the receiver you are using, and what signal quality are you seeing without the switch?

2- Check the coaxial cable/connectors you have between the LNBF and switch. Use high quality cable/connectors only.

3- You may want to consider adding an inline amplifier between the LNBF and switch.

4- If all else fail, try changing your switch and see if the signal improves.

Best of luck.

is your linear LNB in the center of the focal point or the circular?

The linear LNB is in the center of the focal point. I will try playing with the satellite alignment to see if it helps.
