C band and DVB

Hi I have a working C /Ku system and was looking at adding a 4dtv to it.
I seen you can add a FTA receiver such as a Fortech DVB http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/A.../Bud-slave.htm
and was wondering if I can pickup the same thing as a 4DTV.
If not what combo will work?

4DTV and DVB are two different things. 4DTV is a Digicipher 2 based subscription service. 4DTV can be added to your current c/ku system by adding a 4DTV Receiver from Motorola or General Instruments, and then subscribing to their services from the many providers. There are some channels available FTA on a 4DTV Receiver.
The channels that the Fortec will receive are MPEG-2/DVB broadcasts and are not the same as a 4DTV. There are ethnic and wild feed DVB channels available.
See http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/United-States.html
on this chart look for the channels video listed as DVB to get an idea on what
the Fortec will pick up, and video listed as Digicipher can be received on a 4DTV receiver.
4DTV Channels available (With subscription) are listed here..
http://www.skyvision.com/pages/infor...4dtvguide.html

a DVB Receiver can be added easily to your existing c/Ku, however it will not receive any 4DTV programs

I have a 4DTV Side car that hooks up to your existing c band receiver,so you would still use your existing c band receiver to watch Analog and move the dish. But you would use the 4dtv side car for the digital channels.
I think by getting a 4DTV side car first will save you money.
Then if you like to upgrade get a DSR922.
All so if you are able to recieve FTA C/KU Band signals with your dish.
You will be able to all so get a good enough signal for 4DTV.
And Yes i like my FTA/4DTV ect. system. As for programing Providers i would recomend NPS,Sky Vision. You will have to set up another acount if you want TVN-PAY-PER VEIW off the GO Satellite.
If HDTV is what you want 4DTV is the way to go.
Hope this helps you and others on this form. 8)

fta Digicipher 2 channels

Currently I have c/ku system with Mpeg 2 dvb digital receiver. All my dishes are fix (not movable). I am also inteerested in receiving fta Digicipher 2 channels (like Fox Sports on AMC4). I don't want to subscribe the service. What do I need to buy to receive these channels?

There are really no FTA Digicipher2 channels. The very few that are usually require an authorized subscription to something just to enable the fixed key authorization they transmit. Plus you will need a full size c band system to utilize the benefit of 4DTV since the majority of the DC2 signals are on c band. The FOX Sports on AMC4 and AMC1 will no longer be available for 4DTV subscription after this year and are definately not FTA.

The best thing to do is get a 4dtv and slave a dvb box to it.
