Encypted channels question

First, I am not talking about hacking.
I have a BEC 6600CI+
I see alot of encrypted channels out there. Would I be able to subscribe to a provider (like cable) and pay a monthly fee to get somw of those encrypted channels like HBO, using my reciever?

Well, its kind of complicated. As I recall, your receiver is CAM ready but has no internal decryption circuitry. You would need a CAM (Conditional Access Module) designed for the type of encryption the program provider is using -- and there are several types; examples are NagraVision, Viaccess, Irdeto, etc. So its more than simply getting a card from the program provider and signing up a subscription. CAMs are hard to find too. Plus, the major North American satellite providers (DishNetwork, DirecTv and Bell ExpressVu -- oh yes, and StarChoice... ) all use their own receivers. So trying to adapt your BEC would be impossible.

Just enjoy the many channels that are free-to-air. Get a "Blind Search" receiver -- it really opens up the world of FTA.
