FTA001 is on a distinguished road
2 weeks passed, got nothing, need your help

Bought M-2 Motorized DYNAMIC Satellite Choice Set with the following components:

90N Fortec dish
Sadoun PowerTech DG280B HH Motor
QPH031 Quad LNBF
SM21H 22KHz switch

Tried another week, still cannot get any signal. The “signal level” is always under 4%, the same level as no cable connected. We tried all possible ways trying to get any signals but nothing. We switched a little each time within the possible directions and also changed angle a little each time but nowhere to get signal. We even hold dish by hands, and move-stop and move-stop scanning the sky but no signal found. We think there are two possible reasons:

1. We didn’t connect the LNB (there are four outputs, L1 C1 L2 C2) correctly:
Our cable connection is totally like this connection (the same LNB as ours): http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Invacom/invacom-qph-031-7.JPG, L1 and C2 are used. But on the installation configuration diagrams, http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Invacom/Invacom-lnb-b.gif
, we cannot found a match one. There are four different configuration, we simply don’t know which one we should follow.

Our switch is this one, http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/S/S-SM21H-2-way-switch.htm . We don’t know how to connect the LNB to this switch. Anybody can help us?

2. The LNB is broken and cannot get signal or transfer signal to the receiver. How can tell if the LNB is working or not?

We will try different connection tomorrow to see if we can find anything.

Thanks,

first take the switch out of the picture hook to the L1 and try to get signal first also leave the motor out for now find a sat with a active transponder make sure the numbers match in your receiver once you find a signal this way then you can install the motor and the switch.

PS............make sure you disconnect power and or coax at receiver, when working on the system. This will protect any damage to LNB or switch.

Yes, we did that and scan the sky for hours. We connected the receiver directly with LNB on the L1 and pointed dish to the direction of Galaxy3C and changed the angle little by little and also changed the direction a little by llittle. No reaction on the receiver.

How to test if the LNB hardware is working?

There is NO power indicator on the LNB (http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Products/I...-Quad-lnbf.htm). How I can know it is on? I know my cable is good and the receiver can send command/power to another end because receiver can drive motor with the same cable when motor is connected.

what receiver are you using? most receivers has a on off option for the lnb.

is your receiver tuned to an ACTIVE TRANSPONDER while looking for G3C?

if so - can you tell me what is that transponder frequency?

And - you cannot "hold the dish" in your hands.
When you find the signal just pushing on the dish with a finger will cause the signal quality to go away.
The aiming spot is very very small. It is very easy to miss - and make you think that your equipment is faulty when it is really OK.

transponder frequency is 11780/H/20760

The active TP on Galaxy 3C is 11780 H / tp 4.

LNB power

In my manual mercury II..page 19 shows "System setup" menu then choose "others" then choose LNB power on or off.
Same as above

Hope this helps, also
remember to have the power off to receiver, unplug it would be better before making changes to LNB and switches.........
Jim

Thank you.

This is the most common mistake - not being on an active transponder.
This one will do.

Start up problems

Maybe my suggestion is a little too late, but have you hook up a satellite finder to determine if you at least have located a satellite? This is an important prerequisite in finding a bird.

You may know this but it bears repeating...in your antenna setup the QPH-031 is a standard LNB. The "L" side is Linear set to 10750 and "C" is circular set to 11250.

Cool things to check

On a motorized system you need to check or have:
  1. A plum mast (absolutely plumb)
  2. LNB mounted for 0° SKEW
  3. Motor parked at reference point or 0 indicator on the motor
  4. Know your location in reference to ZIP code and /or coordinates
  5. Setup USALS in reference to your coordinates and save this information in your true south satellite.
  6. Once you select the true satellite the motor will travel the correct amount of degrees.
  7. Check on LYNGSAT wich transponders are active.
  8. Make sure you have the correct frequency set on your receiver for the LNB to operate correctly.
  9. Verify that you have the correct frequency, and polarity for the transponder you pretend to scan.
  10. Go to the SADOUN page and look for the angle calculators.
  11. On motorized setups you need to adjust AZIMUTH, ELEVATION and DECLINATION. You don't need SKEW. The motor rotation will do the SKEW.
  12. Once you have your true south satellite OPTIMIZED, you can start setting up frequencies on the other satellites always turning on USALS and the motor will calculate the exact run to stop at the satellite you want to work with.
  13. OPTIMIZATION is in reference to the signal quality and not the signal strenght.
  14. Don't you ever do coarse or rough movements while you optimize your antenna, this is a hobby of precission.
  15. Most important of all this is a hobby of patience.
  16. Make sure to real all the rules of this forum to enjoy your investment even more.

Make sure your dish settings are correct on the dish mount. "Freak" had his set wrong when corrected he got a good signal.
