Hello All
Hi I'm new to FTA. I have a motorized system. The M2 system with the Fortec
Dish, Mercury II Classic receiver. The Power Tech DG-240 Motor. ULN1 LNBF

I have a compass the problem with it. Its going crazy from the Hi voltage lines. It moves around alot. I mounted this on a tower. It is plump.

I live at N41.44.225 W087.42.733 Chicago Il 60652
Is there alternate way of finding true south.
Could I use a satellite to help like 87W or 89W?

I have a finder I set it to a peak. Receiver show < 10.
Is there any magic? Ideas ? Something I missed?

true south is the same satellite as your longitude. I would use 87W as your True South being at 87.4

So could I set the dish to position 0 and and search there?
Do I have to find a active transponder to to use the satellite
finder? Does the receiver know that is on the correct satellite by a id
number. To show level and quality on the tv?

You want to have the motor at ZERO. Point the whole assembly at what you think is true south, which as Iceberg said was 87.

Then, on your Mercury move the dish to AMC 3, 87.0 W. Then tune to an active transponder and move the whole assembly dish and motor and all slowly back and forth until you find signal. You also might have to adjust your dish up and down. That dish from Sadoun might be off on the elevation by as much as 5 degrees.

Once you find AMC 3, you want to move to the far east then the far west, and do the same thing with moving the whole assembly. As long as you are plumb, you may not have to adjust very much. 2 degrees left or right is another satellite, so your movements will be very small.

Yes, that is perhaps the simplist sollution with those power lines. Another way would be to use a handheld GPS if you own one or know someone who does.

Hello All
Went up my tower to and spent sometime messing around.
I got it working perfectly. I have the dish set to 26 and moved it about 30
and set to the true south showed on dishpointer page. Which was the very corner of my neighbor across the street house.
So If I want to watch NASA TV on EchoStar 7 which Sadoun LNBF should I
purchase. I read that I need circulator polarization.

Don,
I use the Invacom QPH-031. It has 2 circular ports and 2 Linear ports. You will need to use a DiSEqC switch that has at least 2 ports. You will hook that up AFTER your motor if you have one. 1 port will go to the C and a 2nd port will go to the L. Then, in your reveiver, you will have to choose which DiSEqC port each satellite is connected to. Most FTA is L while 119 DN for NASA will be C.
