Finding the right satellite?

I have a motorized system (M3 choice set) and I have it installed, but I am having trouble finding true south. The compass that came with the system is round, and the best I can do is "eyeball" the dish as to whether or not its pointing at true south. The guide at the main site told me to have the motor move the dish to 97w, which I did, and then find the signal, which I was eventually able to do, though I had to raise the dish by a couple of degrees from what it was supposed to be at according to the calculations I did. I managed to get a few stations from it, but the channels that I am getting from it appear to be from the wrong satellite. I am getting stuff like the gospel music tv, which according to lyngsat.com is apart of "amc4" at 101w and other channels that were scrambled, such as fox new, courttv, cnbc, and weather channel. Why am I getting these channels? What satellite are they from? And then, when I tried moving the dish a few degrees to the east, I got nothing, and couldn't find the correct satellite.

I am new at this, so any help would be appreciated.
I am at 35 lat by 106 long.

You are on Amc 4 at 101 so you are close to your true south Sat which would be AMC 15 at 105 degrees try to get this sat they have some Dish logos on this sat saying you are pointing at 105 degrees West.

Could you tell me some of the channels I would get from this satellite? AMC 15 isn't showing up on my list thats from lyngsat.com, so I won't know whether or not I am getting the right satellite this time. Thanks for the help.

EDIT: I am getting 4 channels that are called ftn-2, ftn-3, etn, and etn-2. Would you know what satellite this is? They are not on lyngsat either.

Amc 15 is a new sat so it might not be in your receiver list you will have to add it. not home right now so can't check on the channels I know there are a couple of dish logo channels on it. as for the channels you list above may be some sort of wild feed channels so it would be hard to tell what sat you are on.

Well, I have the dish pointed at the only signal that I could find after telling the motor to go to 105°, then moving the satellite a few degrees to the east to compensate for being off before, so I think its homed in on an actual satellite and not a wild feed (though I'm not exactly sure what a wild feed is).

a wild feed is a feed that is not 24/7 like a news feed or sport feed. in other words they come and go.
