I hear ya Rainman... That's the way it is with me, It's been 20 degrees here for so long now, I am used to wearing just a hoodie when I go outside.

new question
My order came with a BSC621 standard LNB. No manual whatsoever.
The box says that it has a 22KHz built in switch and the manual posted on sadoun says it has a diseqc built in.
Which one is right.
I testing this very moment and my meter is already screaming with signal.
My gut feeling is that KU operates with 22 KHz on and C with 22KHz off.
Can anybody confirm?

there are 2 models.
Here's the setup sheet for the Std model

Here's the -2 model (one with Universal Ku band LNBF)

You must be in Miami because it is not that hot in Tampa. That cold snap we had kill my mango tree that I had going for 2 years.

I read Joe Redner's life story in the paper awhile ago. For a poorly educated man, he has made quite a name for himself. For non-locals, Joe Redner owns a local strip club along with several assorted businesses. He even owns a building which he rents to the government. Anyway, he consistently runs for public office, but never has gotten elected. Quite a character.

what an experience
Going back to the original subject......
Wao I have been 12 hours straight working on the antenna.
I have learned a lot of things but I am very satisfied wih the results.
Here are some thoughts.
- C band dishes are not for entry level enthusiasts and hobbyists (I'm lucky to be past that stage)
- Focal distance is absolutely critical.
- A good mast is absolutely critical (I am working with an EMT fence type of pipe and it is too thin and weak, it lost its shape while tightening the set screws. I have to change it)
- Pacience is very important
- Make sure to have a decent signal meter. ( I work with a channel master ,model 1004 IFD)
- Make sure to have on hand a TV a least 13" along with your receiver. (sometimes you need to see the signal quality on the TV for fine tunning.)
- Do not put your BUD on a roof specially if you live in Florida (now I realize that during hurricane season I have to bring it down)
- A 6 footer BUD works well with the Atlantic satellites. On the west SATMEX5 works well with a 6 footer.
- Ku will not work if you don't have your focal distance well aligned. C band may work even if you are out of focus. I insist that you have to align the focal distance.
- Because of the mast problem for now I'm leaving my BUD parked at PAS1R to watch Teleamazonas from Ecuador.

Yes Byx doing a C-band is alot of work, mostly grunt type with the pole, concrete, running wire & coax ect. But it is worth it when you are done. but in my dealing with satellite setting a base or putting the pole in, is the most important thing to be strong an plum, been dealing with satellites since 1981, an the amount of concrete an the gauge of pipe is also very important.
An the focal distance is important with any type of dish prime focas (like you new BUD) or a offset feed ku dish. an what also is important on prime focas dishes is the F/D ratio, dont know what your forec is but most c-band dishes is .38, those are settings on your C & Ku feed throat.
Now I am also down in Fla, an you are right with the high winds you need the have a strong pole with alot of concrete. now my main dish i got here is a 10ft 6inches across an it a Micro-Dine comercal fiberglass dish was used for up-links, an that dish is anyware from 450 lbs to 500lbs, an it is sitting on a pole ( 4 1/2 inches OD)up above the roof here, an put that up in 1993, an no problem with the pole tru out its years. Now on that pipe when i built it used Sec #40 well pipe 4inche ID an sleved inside a 3 1/2inch well pipe sec#40 inside of it an welded them together, 20 foot total lenght with 4 feet in ground an over 2000 lbs of conceter. now needed a crane to set the pipe (no problem cousin owns crane service), then after setting pipe had him drop a 1inch rebar inside of it an filled the pipe with cocrete, an added a house mount to the lental with tru-bolts. An tru out the years no problem with the pole set up here, even durring the 3 sets of hurrican that came tru in 2004, an where i am at only got about 50 to 75 mph of wind, for about 2 days solid of each hurican. but when you set up a pipe Byx need to stop an think about the wind load that of any size dish, an then build the pipe a little heavyer, because you want to protect your investment, an dont want to do it twice.
So good to here you got it up an running, take some time an enjoy. then plan on setting a good strong pipe with lots of concrete an dont worry about up above a roof line, when the winds come, because when the storms blow tru your dish will still be their. It may bend a few parts like actuator, elevation bar, or even have seen dishes turn into clam from super high winds, but the pipe will be fine. Hope this bit of info on my set up helps you out Byx, an the very best of luck to you on your set up...

mast
Thanks for the information.
I'm doing some serious planning about the new mast.
The existing one is side mounted on a wall which is what I originally used for my good old 76cm winegard.
This mast is 2 1/4" fence type and it is perfect for that lightweight antenna, but for the C band, I will replace the mast with a 3" OD but thicker.
My limitation on my back yard is that the only possible open space to mount a mast is where my septic drainfield is and that is a place I don't want to mess with.
Anyway, I am enjoying every little bit of my C band investment.

use schedule 40 steel pipe for your mast and you won't have any problems.

existing mount
Rainman:
Take a look at the side mounts.
The mast is plumb but actual antenna mount looks crooked because the pipe is only 2 1/4" OD and it has too much play to be straight.
While adjusting the set screws the upper tip of the pipe got out of shape.
I left it parking at PAS1R.

I would use a schedule 40 pipe at the same location just a longer pole so it can go in the ground with some cement then brace it to the house and you will have a solid mount also the schedule 40 won't bend when tightening the set screws.

my C band installation
Mbaltazar:
I have not done the final installation of my dish because I got sidetracked with other matters but the good news is that in the mean time I found a temporary solution to correct the pipe problem.
I have my antenna successfuly working from SATMEX5 thru PAS3R on C & Ku bands.
If I have enough sun today I will take a picture and post it.
