Galaxy10R - 11720V tp1 is weak with 90cm dish

Using my 90cm dish...I fine tuned the best I can but only get to 66% quality or so and the picture is in and out. There are some great channels on this transponder and freq. Could this signal problem go away with a 120cm dish?

I'm in central CA, could a 120cm dish bring in more channels than my 90cm dish?
Thanks,
Losbanos99

You have an alignment issue somewhere. A 120 will trap more signal but basically will be of no real good to you unless it storms. If I remember correctly your south sat is 121 which is only 2 degrees from 123. I am assuming you used 121 as your south sat for alignment. First verify your mast is plumb with everything mounted to it. Next question would be are you using USALS to move the dish? If so tell the dish to go to 123 and now peak the sat. I would use 11720 as the tp for peaking the sat.

How far east can you see? In other words what is the sat you can see in the east?

Farthest East Sat is 91.0

The farthest East SAT I get is 91.0. It looks like a mountain starts blocking the SAT if it goes any farther east. I am try the next SAT east to be sure. On the 91.0 I only get an NBC feed and some other feed. Nothing else.

So my extreme SAT pickup is 91.0W and 148.0W. Nothing of value on 148 either. On the SATS inbeteen...I have been using USALS to move the dish for initial setup....then I use the 1.2 to get the "Fine Tune" option. For the most part the fine tuning has brought in the signals stronger...then I SAVE the setting for that SAT. But on this SAT Galaxy10R, for this freq on tp1, the signal doesn't go about 66%. Maybe my alignment could still be a little off? If so, then I'll have to move the motor mount elevation ever-so-slightly and try again.

OK I will catch it from a few here but USALS is correct. If you have your settings for lat and long correct when USALS lands you are at the correct location. If you do not have signal or poor signal you are out of adjustment. I would reset the receiver to use USALS for all sats. See how far east you can see. Basically how it works is dish elevation stretches the width of the arc and lowers the center point or the exact reverse depending on which way you adjust it. Motor elevation places your arc in the sky. So it will be a combination of the 2 that will get it all worked out.

Tell USALS to goto 123 (G10R) Now peak the signal by physically moving the assembly on the mast and dish elevation. Now with USALS go to another sat and see what you have. You should get an idea after a few what needs adjusted and how.

If you go all the way out to 148 and push up on the dish does signal increase or decrease? What about when you pull down? Now do the same on the eastern most sat you can see. If the readings are opposite (push up in the west and down in the east increase signal) you are not perfectly lined up on center. You want to move the entire assembly a tiny bit on the mast in the direction of push up increased signal.

Repeat this until both pushing up and pulling down decrease signal. You will be aligned on center and can start to adjust the dish from there. After that point you will no longer need to move the assembly on the mast.

Thanks for the tip. I just did slight motor movements and SAVED the settings. It's working fine now. I'm afraid to move the whole thing now as I am tuned into every SAT. I just added the correct tp last night to get White Springs TV which I wanted. I'll get your advice handy if needed though.

I have had much success with the USALS settings on my receiver. it seems that mine gets knocked out of alignment every few months by the wind or something. When I fixed the pole not being plumb, then all of my sats came in fine using just the USALS settings.
