I have followed all instructions to the letter and can not get quality signal or channels. I am aiming to the Inrel AMC 5 satellite and have a signal of 70. But, no channels or quality. Instructions say to move dish left and right to get quality. But, it doesn't work. I moved the thing three times and triple checked all my installation instructions. But, no help. Can anyone help me get this thing up and running before I pull my hair out?
Thanks,
cdj1942

What is your Lat/Lon? Ie is AMC5 your true south sat?
What angles did you set on the motor elevation and/or latitude scale {not same}.
What Angle did you set on your dish elevation AND does you motor have a 30 deg or 35 deg bend (ie is equation 30-decl or 35-decl ).
What transponder on AMC5 are you trying to tune? Ie Freq/SR.

My lat is 34.45 - lon is 85.71..
Intelsat AM 5 is 200.1.
Per my motor installation chart my motor elevation angle is 56
My declination is 5.5 as it is a 30- which would be 24.5 on the dish.
I am using a switch and port 4 is the lin port from the LNB.
transponder on Intelsat AM 5 is 11749.

Your motor elevation is OK, although I would have used 55 deg.
You really should be using a declination of 4.9, but again OK, at least for finding sats near your south sat.

HOWEVER.... you really should be trying first to find your true south satellite, which would be AMC3, not AMC5. I'd really recommend starting with that and using 12180V/30000.

The other thing, is that the transponder you are trying to find on AMC5 isn't there anymore. I assume you were trying to find the UTAH mux which used to be at approximately that freq (you didn't give an SR, so I'm not positive), however that UTAH mux is GONE. If you want to use AMC5, then try the NYN mux, which is at 12182H/23000 .

Or the tp for KTEL. It is a Telemundo channel but the tp is a strong, easy to hit one. 11900H2170 you may not understand what they are saying but you will know if you have found it.

Also, I forgot to memtion, this Winegard dish doesn't have any skew. So, I have skewed the LNB counter-clockwise by 17.

You don't skew the lnbf on a motorized dish. When the motor is centered at it's zero position, have the lnbf vertical, cables down. When the motor moves, it automatically tilts the lnbf to the proper skew. Basically, there is no skew if the lnbf moves in a plane parallel to the equatorial plane where the sats are.

Not if you are motorized. The lnbf should be mounted so that the coax connection is pointed straight down when your motor is at 0. The skew is adjusted as the motor rotates the dish. The dish actually rotates while it is moving along the Clark Belt so with this rotation comes rotation of the lnbf. I get a feeling you are making this harder than need be.

Set your motor elevation and your dish elevation. Center your dish on your motor shaft. Roughly point your dish at where you believe true south is. Now with USALS tell your motor to move your dish to AMC 3. With a small tv and the receiver out at the dish and the receiver set for 12056v3256 start hunting for signal. Move the assembly east to west very slowly. I am assuming you are using the QPH-031 lnbf in which case you should be connected to one of the L ports of the lnbf and your receiver should be set to 10750 fo lnbf LO. Until you have the motor/dish assembly aligned I would not mess with any other ports on the lnbf.

Once you find signal scan in what you have and compare it to the channel listings on Lyngsat to determine which sat you are actually pointed at. You can adjust from there.

WOW for once I am the wordy one not Bill.

Installation Help- No Quality signal

I follow everything up to setting the receiver for 12056v3256.
This Sonicview HD 8000 receiver does not show a 12056v3256
under AMC 3.
It shows under Transponer a 12048v7230 and a 12096v19510
under AMC 3.
Thanks for all the help,
Charles Johnson

These receivers usually have obsolete transponder lists when you get them. After you've found sats, you can blind scan to find the actual transponders, but often when aligning your system you may have to manually edit your transponders to create an active transponder. I don't know how it's done on your receiver, but all receivers have a way to manually create a transponder. Use Lyngsat to find active transponders.

Charles,
The first tp you list is a DCII tp and not viewable by your DVB receiver. The second one I am guessing is a dead DCII to also and I am going just off the 19510 portion. As Bill stated there is somewhere in your receivers menus that allow you to manually create tp entries. Just as he said I would go to LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite amd make entries from their listings. If you do not know how to read lyngsat let us know and someone will help you with it.

Interesting, re the 12048v7230. I think in reality that was a misprint, as the SR should be 7320 if it's DCII, and I think you're right (I remember tuning it once, but can't remember if it's DCII or DVB). But Lyngsat lists it as DCII. So if Lyngsat is right, it sounds like the receiver manufacturer used the Lyngsat data, along with the incorrect SR value. I always wondered where these receivers manufactured in the far east where they can't see our satellites get their transponder lists, so perhaps at least this one get the data from Lyngsat. I wonder if they are paying Lyngsat? Perhaps Lyngsat is like some other lists, that insert intentional incorrect info to detect usage like this?
But if the 7230 is correct, then I don't think it's DCII, unless it's something that only expensive DCII receivers that can do non standard SR values can tune.

Re the 12096, yeah, that hasn't been around for a couple years.

Installation Help- No Quality signal

I have done everything and still no quality. I have a great signal: 60-70.
So, I beleive something is blocking the signal. I did manage to get quality on AMC 3. But, when it locked in it said it was Echostar 7.
I will move the dish location to a more clear location and see how that works.
Thanks,
Charles

Installation Help- No Quality

I finally got a quailty signal on AMC 4 and tuned it in for the best quality I could get which is about 92. I search for channels and get 38. But, when I go to another satellie and search the transponders, the only quality signal I get is from a transponder off of AMC 4. This is just to weird. Right now AMC 4 is the only satellite I can get any quality signal from.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Charles
