Installation Problems, Can't find signal.

Hello,

We tried to setup a new dish & receiver today, but with no luck.

Here are the details:
Samsung DSB-4700F
SINGLE DIGITAL STANDARD Linear KU 0.4 dB LNBF
80CM Dish

My zip code is 91765. Los Angeles County.

IntelSat Americas 5 is what we are trying to get for Persian TV channels.
So our EL & AZ calculation said
EL 44.4 AZ 145 (-28.3 LNB)

Our magnetic declination or watever is aprox 13-14. so our true AZ should be aprox 132.

We setup the dish, pointed the dish at 45 degrees elevation
then we used our compass to get as close to 132 as we could. We used an analog reader to help us. With a little play, we can get a signal on the analog, but nothing on the receiver. We tried playing with the dish slowly to try to get a signal. I don't know what I am doing wrong, I very carefully scanned left to right w/ the dish, to try to pickup a signal on our receiver, but it was had a signal of 30 the whole time (default) and didnt budge a bit. The reciever was set to intelsat5 and I even tried entering the specs manualy but w/ no luck. Any suggestions? Any help would be really appretiated, I spent almost 4 hours today just playing with pointing the dish. I have a tv setup right next to it too. is our angle wrong? what could it be.

Thanks in Advance

make sure your receiver's settings are for a standard LNB, it's frequecy shown should be 10750

make sure LNB power is set to "on"

Make sure there are no switches, meters, or anything else in line when you are looking for signal. Coax directly from lnb to reciever to begin with.

make sure the coax cable from lnb is plugged into "LNB" or IF IN on back of reciever (not antenna in)

once you set your receiver to IA5, you must also make sure you are set to an active transponder (think of it as a channel slot)
use this:
12177 V 23000 or 12152 H 20000

Still no signal. Signal is still on 30% and all of the settings you mentioned have been inputted already.

Not sure what could be the problem, we even played with the dish a bit with no luck.

I'd hate to think its the lnb. I wonder what we're doing wrong. Are my angles correct? Any other suggestions?

Press Menu. Installation. LNB setting. Make sure your LNB is on and is set to 10750 on both lines. Go back to installation and press ok on Manual scan. Chose satellite I5AK. (K not C), select an active transponder and watch for the signal while you move the dish slowly. Watch the quality level (rather than level) to see if you get any signal. I would suggest increasing the elevation 2-3 degrees.

Good Luck

Make very small adjustments to the dish when moving it. Even a 1/16 of an inch can make a big difference.
