Long Distance Installation

Hi there. I am at 41.07 N 86.63 W. Am purchasing from Sadoun Satellite sales a Dish Network ViP222 HD reciever, Dish 500 Dish w/ dishpro dual lnbf, non motorized. Dish to be mounted 420' away from reciever with Perfect-10 RG-6/u cable.
Where in the coax line do install a Pico Macom spi amplifier, or what amplifier would I use where?

You always want to put an amplifier as close to the signal source as possible so that you amplify signal and not noise. The drawback is always that a load on the end of a long run can cause voltage drop problems.

If you have AC power available, I recommend that you take advantage of it, use and AC powered amplifier, and reduce the load (and voltage drop) on your coax DC power. The amplifier would need a DC pass-through since you need to power your LNBFs.

If AC power is not available, the LA-2150D amplifier works well for a reasonable cost. I would stick it in the middle of the run to reduce the voltage drop at the LNBF.

I know nothing about how the Dish Network receivers work, so can someone chime in? What I'm thinking is that I would install a power inserter as close to the dish as possible if there is no requirement for DC switching of the LNBFs.

Thanks for the info Al. The LFNB'S on the Dish 500 dish does not need switching to my knowledge (which is extremely limited and gained from the Sadoun online products description). What DC amp would you suggest, whereas I do have AC within 100" of the dish location.

Any of the DC inline amps from Sadoun seem to work. I use the JVI ILA-20W in-line amplifier from Sadoun and it works fine to compensate for fairly long runs (200'). I'd start with just the amps up at the LNBF and see how it works. If you have troubles, then I would go for the Pico-Macom Satellite Power Inserter at your 100' point and set both cables to 18V to make sure that the LNBF and amplifiers aren't being browned out.

You have a challenging installation, so I wish you well and I'm interested in how it turns out.
