skylark is on a distinguished road
satellite positions are all off, help!

hi,
I bought a diseqc1.2 H-H motor SG2100, 90P dish, mercury II receiver.
My satellites are all off.

My zip code is 15330
My Latitude is 40.2
My Longitude is 80.1

settings on dish I used
declination angle 23.75
elevation angle 40.2
true south about 189

Can someone help me?
What should I check?
What would cause this?

Thanks,
Bill

My satellites are all off.

please explain how you've come to this conclusion?

You should be:
- adjusting motor to zero, point everything at 189 on a compass.

- Use USALS to move motor to AMC5 (it wont move much)

- very slowly, move dish elevation and motor side to side on pole, look for a signal on 12182H
(you might not get a picture, but good "quality" idicatoin when you hit it)

you must have patience. it took me a couple of weeks to have my motorized set up working properly. and if think you are going slow already with your movements try even slower! allow the receiver time to register the signal. i have noticed on some sats it takes a couple of seconds to pick it up. i am not technical advice guy by NO means but taking your time is so rewarding when the sats start to line up one by one. also having your TV out next to the dish is helpful. stay cool

channels are scanning from wrong satellites. Wrong channels on wrong satellite. I got the dish pointed to 189 with it set on zero.

The dish or receiver cannot determine the sat its pointed at.

If thing have gone weird on you, something is obviously out of whack.
You really need to start at square one.
Zero (or reference), make sure your coordinates are set in USALS, pick amc5 and make the motor move to it.
Visably look at dish. Is it pointing pretty much STILL at 189 (it should)...

I know it can be frustrating, but without knowing what really happened here you must start over.

This isn't likely to be your problem, but I wanted to correct some of your numbers above.
If your latitude is 40.2, you should use:
declination angle= 5.6
elevation angle on dish= 24.4 (assuming an older SG2100 with 30 deg shaft angle).
elevation angle on motor=49.2
latitude angle on motor=40.8
