Leaky switch

I have a 4 way Diseqc switch that has ports 1 and 4 attached. When I select ports 2 and 3, I get signal and quality numbers (although lower) despite the no connections. How do I terminate the unused ports? 75 ohm caps?

Larry

Yes, use 75 ohm terminators. Although I've never had to terminate unused ports. Guess it depends on the brand of switch you have. It is a good idea however to cap them for waterproofing reasons if nothing else.

Why is it important that you see no signal at an unused port?

When you change the state of the switch, then whatever signal you saw when that port was active, is likely not going to be the same. I can't see how terminating inactive inputs does any good unless you just want to keep water out.

I have read a couple diseqc manufacturers advising against terminating diseqc switches, and the terminating cap can cause shorting and degrade/ruin the diseqc. I'd check with the manufacturer before capping them. 3x4 multiswitches should be terminated to avoid leakage that occurs from the OTA signals though.

I terminate all of my unused ports mainly to keep water out haven't had no switch problems as of yet.
