Question Problems after storms

After the latest storm, my motor is not working. So this is what I see:

1. I have an SG2100 about 14 months old, connected to a 90 cm dish with an Invacom QPH-031.

2. The motor does not show any lights at all, but, when I remove the line to the receiver from the DiSEQc 4x1 switch the green light comes on and I can manually reposition the dish.

3. If I leave everything connected and remove the line from LNB2 I get a flickering orange to red light.

The weather here has been bad so I havent had much time to play with this, but when It first happened, I replaced the switch, thinking that, that was the most likely piece to fry. after that change, it worked for a total of 5 mins.

I am trying to determine, which piece is now bad, lnb, motor or diseqc switch ... Your help would be really appreciated .. Thanks.

where do you have the disqec switch mounted? if between the motor and lnbf you are ok if between the motor and receiver you will have problems. if you have the switch in the right place you may have a lnbf shorted out.

Storms

The switch is between the LNBF and the motor. 4 LNB connections to one OUT connection going to the motor and eventual going to the receiver from he motor ... Thanks for the feedback ...

then i would check for a shorted lnbf or cable from the motor back to the lnbf.

Update

It finally stopped raining so I was able to go out and change the diseqc switch and check all of the connections... so now... my motor will only accept manual commands .. whenever I try to use the automated USALS approach .. I get close but not close enough .. I have to manually tune the dish .... never had to do that before.

have your receiver to set the motor to zero and then see if your sats come back in.

Vitruvius will become famous soon enough
me too

Yes, I have a similar problem after major thunder storms. It has happened twice. I have a simpler system with just one LNB. After the storm the motor stops working. It doesn't move. I usually go up to the motor and manually move it back to what I remember as 0. Then I reset the motor with a paperclip. And then presto... I have all the satellites again.

I suppose my dish isn't grounded correctly.... you think?
