Deciding on a diplexer to combine SAT-CATV

i am trying to figure out which diplexer I should purchase to combine a CATV signal with an FTA Satellite signal. The numbers on the switches are sometimes different...so how does one know which one to get?

I have a Microyal MRX1200 FTA receiver with a Ku Linear LNB single on a 33" dish...............anyone know the answer? Here are some pictures of what I mean....note the numbers differ....40-2400Mhz and 40-2150Mhz....

I'm actually considering something similar.

LNB's baseband frequency if from 950-2150 mhz, so either one of these would work, more sure there's a DC pass on the SAT side, and not on the Ant. side.

If you just use regular "basic" cable, the frequency range is from about 40-800mhz.

Now if you might use digital cable, and here comes my question, would this setup still work.

I have easy access from the roof to the cable line that goes to my TV, and would like to use a combiner to "leach" that run to mix in the SAT signal. I'm sure this would work for the SAT, but i'm concerned about the digital cable signal, and the two-communication, will it still work, I remember hearing somewhere data some of the datatraffic for the cable box is being done in the T-band (around and below 40mhz).

Has anyone tried this before, it would really help to know. It will save me 50 feet of cable run, and the spot where i'm going to drill a hole.

Again, short answer, either of these will work with NON-digital cable for sure, now who knows if it works with digital cable?

Yes you can diplex the line to run Digital cable and Sat Feed on one wire. I am a Dish Network installer and I do this on a daily basis, I am even running my Cable modem and SAT feed on one wire and it works just fine.

Everyone always says you cannot but I have had my house this way for 9 months and have not had a single issue with SAT or Internet.

You don't even need a very expensisive set of diplexers (Holland DPD2) are what I use you can find them for about 2.00 each. Remember you need 2 of them to work 1 to combine and 1 to separate.

SRTManiac...thanks for the heads up...I too am a dish installer, but wasnt sure if you could use these with DN....I had problems installing a set with a DP44 switch...how do you connect these with DP34 switches?

You install the Diplexer after the output from the switch to the STB.

Say the room you want to run a combined signal to is connected to port 2 you would install the diplexer between output 2 on the swich and the STB.

Since you are dealing with the output side of the switch the switch its self does not factor into the equation

Just treat your Cable feed like you would a second Tv off of a 322 and you will be OK

What type of problem did you have when you tried to diplex with the 44 switch?

Thanks SRT,

I went out and bought some diplexers, they look like MCT, but are Philmore.

At first the SCA cable box was acting a little weird, but after a reboot, it was working fine. I checked the signal levels on the diagnostics, and the forward and return data signals were fine. (Within req. levels.).

I have at this time not received my system yet, so no sat signal on it yet. But should it soon, I just wanted to see what the impacts were if I did install a duplexer, and there are none so far.

It made a big difference for me on how much cabling I had to run around the house to connect the STB.

Do you think I need an in-line (LNB) amplifier because of the 2 diplexers? (3db each loss)

Come to think of it, my house being about 15 years old, they may have used RG-59 to wire the house, so I might need the extra amplification.

Does anyone have experience with RG-59?

it was to my understanding that RG-59U cable has problems working with switches/diseqc.....I recommend goin with RG-6 for better reliable results and less headaches....

Yes, I know RG-59 has has weak signal properties over 1ghz, but it's the inside wiring that's already in the house, at least I think it is, I haven't confirmed it.

I'm going to see if my setup works, if it doesn't I will just route the cable around the house as planned earlier, and not use the inside wiring.
