Receiving Nimig 1 FTA?

What special steps do I need to take to receive all the FTA TV and radio on Nimiq 1? Lyngsat lists a bunch of FTA on channels with circular polarization. Granted, I have a universal FTA LNB not meant for circularly polarized channels, but I can get some circular channels on Echostar 7, so what's the difference? (Fortec Lifetime receiver, southern California)

Re: Receiving Nimig 1 FTA?

There is no special step.
In order to get all circualar channels, you need a circular lnbf.
Any standard or universal ku lnbf can get some circular feeds.

Re: nimiq 1

If I have a ku LNBF, is it possible that I can add another Circular LNBF?
If so, what circular LNBF do you recommend?

Re: nimiq 1

1. Any working DirectTV or DishNetwork should work.
2. If you have a motorized dish which tracks the arc correctly, attaching an circular lnbf next to the ku lnbf should get you lock on all the DishNetwork/BellVu satellites.
If you have a fix dish, you can attach an circular lnbf next to the ku lnbf but it'll be a little more complicated becuase it depends on what satellite your dish aims at. Example, If your dish aims at Telstar5, attaching a circular lnbf will get you Nimiq1 at 91W. In theory, you can make a fixed dish to get multiple satellites which are 4 degrees apart. But it takes a bit of time to find the right position for the circular lnbf to get locked. It's much simplier to put up a 18" dish for circular dish (any DirectTV or DishNet dish will work)
The link below has some pictures posted by Sadoun, it should give you an idea of how you do it:

Re: nimiq 1

OK, Sounds good. I have one KU LNBF, and a DiSeqC 1.2 motor. I also
have two LNBF from my old Dish 500 System. So if I attatch my old
Dishnetwork LNBF, you said it should be OK, right?

1: But what about the connections? Two cables comes from two different LNBF, you need somehow merge the singals into one cable, right?

2: Dose it matter how do you attatch circular LNBF to the exitsting KU
LNBF, what if you get the position or directions wrong?

It's easy. Use a Diseqc 2x1 or 4x1 to switch between the linear and circular lnbfs. Remeber, the switch must be installed between the lnbfs and the Diseq 1.2 mount.

DishNetwork signal is pretty strong. So the cicular lnbf placement is not really critical. Just attach it to the left or right side, then move the dish to see if you can get lock, if not, adjust the its position a bit higher or lower.
