Good Receiver Gone Bad..
Well Folks, an acquaintance knew I was into FTA and gave me a FTA receiver that unfortunately was used by someone with "Bad Intentions"... But, it does look like a nice receiver. It's called a MAX 2000
This is it:
[removed by vj9999]
Anyway, how do I bring it back to life to use it for FTA? I have never flashed a receiver before, and don't even know who built this thing to get a factory bin for it....
He gave me a cable for it, but I imagine one needs some software to load the bin if I manage to find one...
So what do you think? Can it be brought back from the "Dark Side" or take it out with the trash on Thursday?

Since those guys just modify the code to run some "extra" stuff to do whatever decryption/etc that needs to be done for their purposes, I would think that you could just start using the receiver as-is (and just don't go out and load any of the ever-changing numbers into your receiver). Unless they had to overwrite an area of memory for their special routines, it should work fine as-is. And I cannot think of how it would work at all if they overwrote memory that handled viewing standard FTA stuff anyhow.

Ok..
I just played with it very quickly here.. Let me play some more..
I kept trying to change LNB type and it kept going right back to the circularly polarized one... Maybe I'm doing something wrong....

I agree, re censorship. I'm not sure where they draw the line here, but it's certainly getting to the point where it inhibits reasonable discussion.
Well, it's Saduon's forum, but I've just removed my link to Saduon's page from my web page just to express my support for uncensored discussion.

Bibbler,
We certainly appreciate your business and welcome your posts and comments. Please don't take this personally.
I haven't seen the link and the moderator used his descrition to remove it. I am sure he has a good reason and he left a note. Certainly a link to outside competitor's websites are not allowed by the rules (please see item #9 in the rules). It has been there all along.
wejones,
I have rarely seen any posts getting "edited" by the moderators, specially from regulars on this forum. I hope you can put the link back on your website again. I can see that you kept a link to your website in your signature. We appreciate a resiprocal link.

While this is America and all that this forum is funded by Sadoun Satellite Sales and uncensored discussion is not a requirement. While each is free to follow what they feel is correct I think it reasonable that no links to competition is a rule. After all you (in general) are asking Sadoun Satellite Sales to finance advertisement to his user base for his competition with no compensation from the receiving vendor.

I am in no way affiliated with Sadoun. I am just a user like you.
It is part of the board rules not to post links to other websites that sell FTA equipment. Not even close to censorship if you ask me.

It was my decision and action to remove the link. Like I said I am just a moderator, put in charge of making sure that people follow the rules. Not in any way associated or affiliated with Sadoun. I can discern when a regular user posts. I only removed the link to that receiver on the competitor website.
What was censored here? Heck, I didn't even remove the language that was refereing to buzz words that imply bin/hacking, because I recognized that the poster is a regular user and that his intentions are legal.

Bibbler,
Don't go. I really enjoy your adventures that you post. I can agree with what they did but I think it could have been a little bit more tastfully (like a explaination near the edit instead of the bottom). Anyway the Max 2000 sounds like a clone of the Digiwave 7000. Do a search for that.

Wejones and Bibbler please reconsider as I feel you are both people of high caliber and I enjoy your posts. Sometimes if we are not up to power things will cause us to react, the reason I am saying this as I became agitated just the other day and said things I would love to take back. Please stay--
