help set up unused FTA setup?

the previous owner of the home didn't use his system for the past 2 years and now I come in, with my own receiver, and can't connect to Galaxy25 (which I believe is the new name for Telstar5, yes?)

So, I'm working with my BEC DB 6600+ CI receiver, an 80cm dish, single LNB and a Stab HH100 motor.

I'm in Dallas (zip 75234), and I'm stuck on the elevation I need.
This is a roof set up and it's perfect and plum. He says it stopped working after a stormy spring a few years ago, thus I'm led to believe that it was simply knocked off just a bit.

The motor is in perfect alignment with the dish and the dish was set at an elevation of 30. According to some sites online, it seems the dish should be at an elevation of 24.7. I've tried adjusting the elevation to that (with the motor attachment, 25 is about the lowest I can set the dish at).

So...can anyone help?

I've got a standard cheapo sat finder that has yielded no success at all.

Or maybe some one can recommend a decent, inexpensive sat installation company in the DFW area?

if it is a fortec 80 cm dish it could be off by 5 degrees so 30 degrees elevation may be right. set the dish to 30 and try moving the whole assembly east and west a little to see if you get a signal.

Might check the F-connector(s) which are outside. Moisture can get in and make for poor connections with time.

Then some dish LNB "arms" will collect water and do not have a hole drilled in the bottom for the water to drain. Then it will freeze and deform the bar. So say a square channel metal bar which holds the LNB collects water where it curves, then there is cold weather and it gets below freezing. The bar will deform and the LNB is no longer where it should be in relation to the dish.

Look for a deformed bar which is holding the LNB.

Being in Dallas, I doubt freezing water could be the culprit (we get 1-2 days a year with such weather).

I'll investigate all suggestions, though. Is there any certain way to test to see if the LNB is "zapped"?

the easiest way is just stick another lnb in and see if you get signal they are fairly cheap and it is always good to have a spare.
