RG 6 Connectors

Will the screw on connectors hold as well as the clamp style? It used to be they said to use the clamp style but it seems now that there are many using the screw on style.

I use both crimp on and the simple screw on types. For indoor, I use the screw on more often, mainly because they are faster to connect and can be re-used, which is important if you run the wire through small holes to go through floors and wires. Ie you can take off the connector, run it through the hole, then re-connect. I don't think either type is particularly waterproof. Many here use expensive waterproof connectors for outside, which I think are also screw on. They look nice, but I have so many connectors, I can't afford the expensive connectors. I just use crimp and screw on connectors, then usually wrap them with coax seal tar. However recently I've gotten lazy, and haven't even bothered with that.

as Bill said the screw on type works ok for indoor use but for outdoor use i would use the clamp on o ring style with weather boots and dielectric grease less water contamination that way.

Excellent advice! If you use a normal connector outside, after awhile the connection can get to be quite bad due to moisture infiltration.

See "Compression Connectors" here...
Cable and Satellite Connectors, Compression fiittings, grounding block

Note: I was told "blue" colored connectors are best to use with high frequency connections such as to a satellite LNB. Also the "EX6XL PPC Compression Connector" works great if you are using quad shielded RG-6. It is a bit larger.

Here is a crimp tool for compression connectors...
70014 Datashark Crimp Tool

I like this cable stripper...
