Switches like that are used to allow you to use one coax with more than one LNB. Generally with just one dish/one receiver, you wouldn't need either switch. However, your sig block shows 2 different dishes. The upper system already has a built in switch, so another one isn't needed. However the bottom one lists a QPH-031, which is an LNBF with 4 ports. You could use one of these switches to select between one of the linear and circular ports on that lnbf. Otherwise you'd have to exchange coax connections to switch between linear and circular.

bill190 has a spectacular aura aboutbill190 has a spectacular aura about
I have a big dish and a tree is blocking a satellite I want to receive from, so I have another dish aimed just at this satellite.

So then I have one coax coming from my receiver, then one coax going to the big dish and another coax going to the fixed dish. And I have a "switch" connecting the 3 wires.

In my case, I use a diseqc switch. My receiver can instruct the switch as to which wire to use. I would set diseqc 1.0, then LNB 1 to use one wire. Or diseqc 1.0 LNB 2 to use another wire.

Instead of a diseqc switch, I could use a 22 kHz switch. Then for one LNB, I would set 22 kHz to on when I wanted to use that LNB/dish. When I wanted to use the other LNB/dish, I would set 22 kHz to off.

And I would set these things for a specific satellite in my receiver.

Actually 22 kHz can have problems when using certain types of LNB's and it is "old fashioned". Using a diseqc switch is more modern and prefered.

Yes, 22khz isn't compatable with Universal lnbfs (lnbs wouldn't care), however I don't agree that old fashioned is bad, and just because DiseqC is more modern that it is preferred. I would tend to beleive that simpler is better, and a 22khz switch is MUCH simpler. Less things to go wrong. No computerization required in the switch.
You read so many posts about DiseqC switches going bad for various reasons, but you seldom read about 22khz switches going bad. I think there are definate advantages to using 22khz if your lnbf is compatable, and if you only need 2 ports.
