Which LNB?
OK, as I'm drinking coffee and getting ready to start on this project, I am looking over what I need to do.. Got a question. My LNB is a BCS621 which is a Standard C/Ku...
Where do I set the LNB Type for C band? The Classic n/a has choices of Standard - Uni - 5150 - 9750 - 10000 - 10050 - 10800 - 10750 - 11200 - 11250 - 11475 - Single S - 0
I know that Uni and Standard are for Ku so it must be one of the others but not sure which...
Also, If I want to xfer some of my sats from the 80cm to the 6' dish, do I need to rescan them since the little dish uses a Universal Lnb and the big one has a Standard (or do I just change LNB type)...
Thanks,
Al

set the c band side at 5150.should be able to change the LNB type in the receiver and receive them.

Hey Al I bet you can sell that spare lnbf in a few to the post concerning locating the arc. LOL

Rainman mentioned the freq, but re the statement above that standard was "for ku", I wanted to respond that with respect to receiver settings, standard is for either C or Ku. Standard is just a "type" that has a single freq, where the universal has 2 LO freqs. As far as the receiver is concerned, it is just receiving the 950-1450 (or actually 950-~2000) band, and the standard/universal LO settings just tell the receiver how to calculate the correspondence between the downlink freq and the freq it is going to see.

Heee
 Hehehehehehehehehehe.. No Doubt....
I was "Al the Hard head"
In a way, I'm really glad that I was such a hard head at first and insisted on doing it "my way" ... The desire to believe that I knew it all from my time watching Boresight with Shaun Kenny (RIP) did indeed convince me that I had an equipment failure. hahahahaha.... You learn your lesson by seeing that "my way" doesn't work
Aligning a 30" Ku digital dish really is a different world than aligning a 12' C Band Analog dish (Yeah I know the principles are the same but you can be a whole lot more sloppy and have at least limited success early on with a big dish on analog)...
There is only one correct way to do this (as you guys TRIED to tell me!!!!) . Sometime you just have to live and learn!!!
Al
(Heading outside now to start the new adventure!!!)

Thanks Bill, ... What concerned me was that I currently am receiving my Ku with a Universal Type LNB (and when I use the C/Ku LNB, it will be standard)... One of my early problems (way back when I started was) was I had a UNI LNB and the receiver was set at Standard. I only got half the TPs and the Freqs were all wrong...
I didn't know if I could change LNBs now without having to change all the freqs in the receiver. I assume from what you guys are saying is that once I tell the receiver that I changed the LNB type, the thing will work as normal...

I don't know how your receiver works, but with the Fortec's I've used, it really isn't possible, (or at least practical) to set up a sat so that it can do both C and Ku with the same lnbf configuration. I've had to create dual satellite definitions, ie I have AMC3-C and AMC3-Ku, G10r-C and G10r-Ku, etc, etc. Basically each satellite has to be set up with the proper lnbf type. Re your Uni to Std conversion on the Ku side, your channel freqs/sr settings wouldn't be affected, but for each satellite you'd have to change the LO freq.
With some software for my Twinhans, they allow you to alter the high/low frequency for Universal settings, which allows you to put the C-band LO freq in as the low, and the Ku-standard LO freq in as the high freq, so that the receiver thinks you have a universal instead of 2 standard lnbfs. This could work for the BCS lnbf it it used a 22khz switch, however it is a diseqC switch, so it's probably still necessary for you to define separate satellites, one with each diseqC setting.

The only receiver I have owned so far that allows for single sat entries is a BEC. You define up to 32 lnb/lnbf's and while a bit bulky to setup initially you assign lnbf to tp. When doing a search/scan if it does not find signal on the assigned lnbf it will cycle through all that have entries in hopes of finding signal. It was my first FTA receiver so I may be a bit prejudice but I still like it best for setup. Does not have blind scan and the software is prone to crash or maybe I just had it overloaded with channels. If it had blind scan and AC-3 I would still be using it. Coship was similiar in concept to the Fortec.
