Direcway internet satellite for FTA

Dear All,

Can I use a Direcway internet satellite to receive FTA channels from IA5 - I am in the USA with lat=40° North, and lon=91° West.

The dish is 39 inches wide and 23 inches tall (I was told before that I need at least 31 inch dish)?

Also if the dish itself is ok, does anyone know if the holder at the end of its arm will hold a standard linear LNB which I already have? or would I need to buy a holder?

Many thanks,

Dish will work for sure!
About LNB, I see on Lyngsat, HughesNet shows regular linear frequencies on G16 (like 11760 H), so it must be working too.
Here is what I found on the net:
hxxp://www.highspeedsat.com/dw4000.htm

Good luck, I think, it should be even better than 36" regular dish!
{EDIT} I don't think you need to change LNB! I think you are ready to go! Just re-aim it 2 degrees east

I thought I need at least 31in dish, isn't this elliptical dish with the short diameter being around 23inches would work as 23inches circular?

Also do you know if I every need to replace its LNB .. can I fit my normal LNB to its bracket? I searched the internet for a disassembly diagram but no luck.

Thanks,

In order to know whether the dish will act as a 23 inch dish or something larger, you need to know the characteristics of the LNBF - its "illumination pattern".

Manufacturers generally give just a single spec for this, the F/D ratio. But really what you want is a pattern of reception at a given distance. I would guess that the patterns are roughly circular, in which case your dish will act as roughly a 23 inch.. maybe slightly better because you will get some benefit of the radiation coming in off of the pattern.

So you really need to know the F/D of the dish, F/D of the LNBF and its illumination pattern to answer the question well.

Bottom line is, if it doesn't work, just buy a second dish
