Amc 16
Hi,
AMC 16 is a circular Bird. I have the Quad LNBF, how do I set the lnb to get a signal from this Sat?
Thanks,

You'll have to use the linear port. The circular port won't work for AMC16, because your receiver won't tune below 950 MHz. .
Using the linear port, you may or may not be able to tune many/most of the transponders. I was able to tune almost all of them with my big dish, which has variable polarity, but with a small dish with an lnbf, I was only able to tune one polarity I think, although it's been a long time since I tried it, so I might be remembering wrong.

I'm a little late responding to your input Wejones but I had to move my dish to a different location. I had some issues with my neighbor's house. I didn't do my home work a few years ago, meaning site survey, and last week I had to bite the bullet. Anyways, your are correct I can't use my circular LNBF on this Bird. I have to say that the universal lnbf works much better than the standard. With the universal I was able to get a signal good enough to pickup sat ID. It could be because , maybe, this sat is not pointed at South Florida. Thanks for your help.

Wow.. AMC16 is a circular sat, isnt it? So, how can a linear or Univeral LNB pick it up? Or does it get picked up , but signal is degraded somehow?

A linear lnbf can pick up circular signals, and a circular lnbf can pick up linear (although the receivers can't tune it). Two problems though, first, when you pick up the wrong type polarization, you lose about half your signal, because half the time the polarity is wrong, however worse than this, you can't filter out signals of the opposite polarity, since half the time the opposite polarity is right. Also, the sensitivity of a linear lnb falls off as you get above 12200, where most circular signals are, but this isn't a problem for AMC16, which is in the normal 11700-12200 band.
On most "pure" circular DBS sats, I can pick up a few of the transponders with a linear LNBF, but not all. Usually, I can only get about half of one polarity, sometimes only a couple of them.
However, AMC16 does not seem to be a "pure" circular sat. It is a sat that can transmit in circular or linear format, and when in circular, it seems to be partly linear and partly circular. Because of this, I can pick up ALL transponders on AMC16 using my big dish feed, and many of them with the little dish lnbf. The reason the big dish feed works better, is because it is adjustable, with it's polarotor, so you can tune in the polarity to that which works best for each polarity.
You can't use a circular lbnf on AMC16, because I don't think that any of the consumer receivers will tune below 950MHz, so they can't tune down into the 11700-12200 band. All consumer receivers however will tune above 1450, so it isn't a problem to go above the linear band to get regular DBS signals.

Ok, thanks for the explanation... maybe one day I'll turn my linear UNIV LNB Fortec 80cm dish to that AMC16 and see if I can pick up any of those circular signals in the linear freq ranges.. heh...

I did once these signals were mixed with much stronger tps from 119W and all were encrypted. I see that there is [DISH Plus test card] at 11840, and that's it!

At least you can pick up a signal. I have no chance. I believe that is it.. a signal card. I think Wejones was able to get some fta channels but I am not sure how he did it.

No. I was referring to locking the transponders, not viewing FTA. I was looking for FTA with TSREADER, which when you lock on a transponder, just pops up a view of a bunch of encrypted streams. I don't remember finding any FTA other than the test cards. Those Dishnet sats occasionally have things FTA, but not very often, and when they do, it usually doesn't last long, and I don't remember ever seeing anything on AMC16.
