Twinhan 1020A, Coolsat 5000, Pansat 3500S Panasonic 4500
10' C/Ku, 1 meter Winegard-QPH-031-Spaun 411F-SG2100
I bought the whole retail package. I inow you can get driver upgrades online. I thought I could just hook up my direct tv DSS dish and lnb up and try to tune in something that was unscrambled and try it out.
From what I gather I will need a universal lnb because I do not know if the card will tune the direct tv lnb because it uses circular polarization. I do not know if the card generates the tone to do the switching.
I am planning to get a 30 in dish and universal lnb soon and give the card another try. I thought maybe I could get a lnb that I could mount to the 18 in dish to expierment with for now and later move it over to the 30 in dish when I get it later.
My problem has been with Kworld support. I have written a few times with no response. I have called a local office in my area but they were of no help. One person in support told me to go to radio shack and purschase the lnb from them. I asked if it would work and the guy said he did not know! And their web site has limited help for the card. The best they can do is say to reposition the dish.
DVB cards won't work with direct tv, direct uses a non dvb format. The nimiq and echostar birds(most of them) are circular polorization. A universal lnbf will not handle circular polorization. If you wanted to see what you could get fta on Nimiq and echostar you would need a circular lnbf, which is what is on your direct tv dish. You could move your dish and see what you can get but its hardly worth the bother, there isn't much on any of them that isn't encrypted. You really need a 30 inch or bigger dish to really utilise your dvb card. You could put a linear/circular lnbf on the dish and get both type of signals. Like this one:

Of course if you go that far, then you have to get a motor so you can see every satellite up there from horizon to horizon. These are good ones:

I will pick up a dish and lnb in a few weeks and then work on this some more. It was all a little confuseing at first but now I have had a lot of questions answered. For now I will mount the dish onto a board and play around with it. I will look at getting a motor to position it after I am satisified everything works.
I am not that interested with the dbs satellites. I know they are all scrambled on direct tv and dish. I think dish may have a few channels in the clear like NASA and some music.
I for the most part bought the pci satellite card because it was on sale and thought it would be a cheap way to get into FTA. For the most part Its basically a hobby.
