I'm stumped!!

Hello! I recently bought a 36" Fortec dish, sg2100 motor, with a fortec fskuvn universal LNB. I'm in Mississauga, Ontario. My Longitude is 79.76W, My latitude is 43.58N, I'm aimed at 82W with a weak quality signal of (25-35%). When I travel the arc on my motor I get 72W(25-35 %),A signal that is (50-60%) with no sat showing up in my display and it is between 72W & 82W, 110W,119W and a small blip of 10% which I suspect would be 91W. I've set up all my angles correcltly with the motor on correct latitude and my dish angle at 33. If I try further tweaking I loose the signal all together no matter what I do. I've used new R6 cable with compression fittings and still no improvement. I'm using a Viewsat Ultra receiver. I don't know what else to do. I'm beginning to wonder if It is hardware related. I have a good view of the sky from SE-NW and my mast is plum. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks!!

all of the satellites you've mentioned are pay for satellites (Dish network and Canada)

they use circular polarity. And they won't work with the receiver you have.

The LNBF you have is destined for linear polarity and suited for FTA signals.

Look for 97w. If you are tracking the arc properly you'll find there's lots of signals on that satellite.

So if it won't work with my receiver will it work with a captiveworks 700? Is that why I can't hit the linear sats no matter how hard I try?

what I'm saying is you're trying to use a linear LNBF to recieve circular satallites. That's why the signal is so low.

The combination you have (Universal LNBF) and Viewsat Ultra is fine.

You need to use 79W AMC5 as your highest south satellite.
There is a good reference channel there - the NewYork Network at 12177H

Look for that. The linear satellites are kinda difficult to pinpoint, their signal is much lower than the dish network satellites.
It's there. You just have to be very patient.

Hey thanks for your quick replies I really appreciate it. I was originally trying to do that then someone told me to shoot for 82W but I notice my arc in off and I've been bumping my head against the wall trying to make it work. I'll go back to 79 and try to be patient. Thanks! I'll let you know how it goes.

I don't have that tp freq. in my list. I only have four of them. How could I add that 12177h in my receiver? Thanks.

WEll as it turned out was what I suspected all along. MY LNB was no good. I bought as new one and pow in two minutes I found my 79W. Spent some more time tweaking the curve so I could scan my outer sats. I want to thank you for the support these last two weeks. Its been a great right and I'm enjoying my new hobbie. I'm be sure to pass along some help when I can. Thanks again.

wow - thats like the 2nd time in all the help requests that I can remember a bad LNBF.
But - then again for all that seem to come - most *can't* find the signal and so we see more "bad than good" - if you know what I mean.

Well good for you. Play around for a week or 2 and revist this post and tell everyone what you think of true FTA.

I can't remember the first... the problem is very rarely because of a bad LNB but it can happen.
