    Installation and setup questions

Bought M-2 Motorized DYNAMIC Satellite Choice Set with the following components:

    90N Fortec dish
    Sadoun PowerTech DG280B HH Motor
    QPH031 Quad LNBF
    SM21H 22KHz switch

    My questions are:

    1. do I need to connect the SM21H 22KHz switch into the system? I only have 1 dish and 1 receiver.
    2. if no need that switch, which port on the LNB should be connected with Motor? There are four port on the LNB: L, C, L, C.

I got my position data as the following:

    My Location:
    Latitude: 42.4652°
    Longitude: -71.2386°

    Satellite Data:
    Name: Powertech DG240 / DG280 / DG380
    Distance: 37709km

    Dish Set Data:
    Motor Latitude: 42.5°
    Declination Angle: 6.5°
    Dish Elevation: 28°
    Elevation: 41.0°
    Azimuth (true): 180.0°
    Azimuth (mag.): 195.2° using Compass

    When I install my system,

    3. I should make my system face 195.2 degree, which is my True South?
    4. I should make my Motor Elevation points to 42.5 degree?
    5. I should make my dish bracket elevation points to 28 degree?

When I use USALS to set the positions:

    6. I should input the 42.5N as the Latitude?
    7. I should input 71.2W as the Longitude? How about the negative sign?
    8. I want to watch CCTV4 on Galaxy 3C, I should select that sate on the Satellite entry? Or I should select one on the south?
    9. What the value for Transponder in my case?

Tried Saturday and Sunday but couldn’t make it works for me. The Signal Level is too low. The Signal Quality sometimes is good but most of times are not good as well. The Go to Position and Go to 0 are not always working as expected.

    Please help me.

    Thanks,

You got all of it correct it looks like -

    1. If you are aiming your dish, do not install the switch yet. You can do that afterwards.
L is for Linear and C is for Circular, you have two of each so you can go to two receivers with both circular and linear. CCTV is on Linear. Use only one cable from an L to your motore.
    2. Later, after you have your dish aimed properly you can hook L and C to a switch between your motor and your LNB. There are only two or three stations with Circular for free out of 450 stations. Not worth using for FTA really.

    7. Yes
    8. Set up your motor using USALS for all sats first. Get it tuned to a strong signal first... Other post is summary of process.
    9. It should be in your Fortec receiver. If not, get the dish and motor aimed to one satellite that is correct for you. Then move the dish using USALS and the motor to the correct satellite with CCTV and if you dont get any of the channels you want, try doing a 'powerscan' of that satellite. This will obtain new transponders and channels and save them into your receiver.

    Good luck.

    Newbie to newbie help

As for longitude and latitude, do not put in the negative sign or W, not necessary. Just put in the numbers.

I found it best, as was previously mentioned to not install the 22khz switch, not necessary in the beginning and it confuses the process.

If you can, have a TV nearby. When you do your powerscan, and the channels show up, from the names of the channels you can figure out what satellite you have, but prior to this go on the lyngsat site and have that up and running on a computer. Match up the channels of your powersearch with the lyngsat's tables. It is sort of like using a TV Guide to figure out what channel you are watching.

Attention to the details is what is important in being successful. In my experience (all of 6 weeks in FTA satellites, but I have been an electronics hobbyist for 35 years) it was challenging and at some times frustrating, but a lot of the help lies in tapping other's experience, such as this forum.

Good luck and hang in there it is worth the time.
