My True South

Just bought a mortorized system here (M-2 Motorized DYNAMIC Satellite Choice Set) and am struggling install it. Read few posts here but still confused with the True South. My location info as the following:

My Location:
Latitude: 42.4652°
Longitude: -71.2386°

Satellite Data:
Name: Powertech DG240 / DG280 / DG380
Distance: 37709km

Dish Set Data:
Motor Latitude: 42.5°
Declination Angle: 6.5°
Dish Elevation: 28°
Elevation: 41.0°
Azimuth (true): 180.0°
Azimuth (mag.): 195.2° using Compass

Does it mean my True South is 195.2? Or my True South is the real South show on the Compass ?

Try www.dishpointer.com You can enter your zip, address and click on satellites until you see it as your most south satellite. My most south didn't have much or anything on it so I picked one near by. You need one with an active transponder so you can zero in on it.

There is 2 declination angles:

MAGNETIC DECLINATION in your case 15 degrees 19 minutes WEST so in your case you add 15.19 to 180 equals 195.19 because no magnetic compass is that accurate you can disregard the minutes, your true south would be a sight line down 195 degree corrected compass angle to point toward true south for your location.

Your closest to true south satellite would be the closest to 71.2386 degrees, or in your case NAHUEL 1 / AMC-6@ 72.0W

Pick 1 active transponder on AMC-6@72.0W to find and fine tune your true south satellite.

The other declination angle is DISH DECLINATION the number of degrees the top of the dish move lower toward the ground, in your case 6.5 degrees. This measurement makes the dish track the satellite arch more closely and improve SIGNAL QUALITY on the farthest EAST and WEST satellites in a motorized system.

True South is always 180 degrees.
The reading on your compass for true south is 195.2 degrees.

Check some of the other posts on this forum about install... It takes a little experience understanding how to best set up a system. After you are successfull you will hit yourself in the head and say 'so that is the way to do it... so simple'.

I usually do the following:
1. take the tv and receiver right next to the dish.
2. align the dish the best i can with the angles figured and pointed due south the best I can... You can't get it perfect with a small compass the first time.
3. turn the receiver to Sat 97 using USALS and the motor. Make sure you input your location coordinates in the receiver.
4. now the dish is set up to receive signal from Sat 97. If you don't get any signal, try changing transponder frequencies. If you still don't get signal, then put it on a transponder listed in Lyngsat that has an active channel and slowly, in one degree increments move the dish east and west. Leave the dish for 15 seconds at each degree to see if you get signal. Remember, you won't have your due south exact, and this is adjusting for it. Once you find the strongest signal you can find horizontally, try doing the same one degree adjustments up and down to increase your signal strength.

How can i input the negative sign?

If the receiver says W, then do not input the minus sign.

Check your dish elevation with the chart that comes with the motor. It should tell you what elevation the dish is suppose to be. That may be an issue to verify.

The angle of the motor should be your latitude on one side of the motor and then the other side of the motor it is usually the product of 90 degrees minus your latitude.

It is very simple. If you follow the guide on our website it will take you through step by step. For a Motorized system you always set the motor to the magnetic south for reference.
