Some questions for Motorized system setup

I just purchased Motorized system and am have trouble getting any signal.
MercuryII receiver, Fortec 90cm dish, KUL1 LNBF and DG280b.
I am at lat 43.5, long -73.8. I have been trying to find AMC 6(72.0w) without any luck.

    Questions:
    1. I read a few times in this forum that the Fortec 90CM dish can be off as much as 5 degrees on the dish elevation scale. Can anybody confirm this?
    2. I do not have a short RG6 cable to run from the LNBF to the motor. Is it alright for me to run a long cable, or can i use a short RG59 instead?
3.If i use the Signal meter, do I hook that up between the LNBF and the motor? And how long should i wait between movements?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark!

    1. RG-59 will work for but I'd prefer you to use short piece of RG-6. Try Radioshack or Lowes or Home Depot?

    2. Do not use that hand held meter. Receiver will work better (IMHO).

    3. Take the receiver out to the dish with a small TV.

    4. Make the motor "go to reference" or "zero" (center)

    5. Point the whole dish motor to your magnetically corrected south heading.

    6. Adjust motor to your latitude.

    7. Put your coordinates in USALS. Have the motor drive to AMC6 (it wont move much)

    8. Put the reciever on transponder shown below. This is a strong transponder and you should be able to find that channel.

    9. Now adjust the dish elevation up and down VERY slowly (1/8" at a time) wait 4 seconds looking for QUALITY indicator.

    10. Adust whole contraption side to side on pole a little if necessary to fine tune. Maybe mark with a felt tip marker where you had it set to your south setting so you can get back there if needed.

The point is the spot you are looking for is the size of a penny at 50 yards. The adjustment is very touchy. Just touching the dish can make the signal go away.

    Good luck

    Thanks for your quick response.
I have for the most part tried everything you listed. I think it is just a matter of patiently fine tuning it. It is raining here today so i will not be able to play with it today, but hopefully tomorrow.

One last question: What should i select on the receiver for the LNB type for this:KUL1 std fss dual lnbf?

    Thanks!!!!

STD = Standard LNBF so that goes with 10750

(a "universal" lnbf uses 2 frequencies - low band of 9750 and hi band of 10600, you do NOT want that)

It is important and will make a difference...

    Good, that makes sense.
I'll try again tomorrow per your suggestions.
    Thanks again!

It worked like a charm. Took about 15 minutes. It was the LNBF setting on the receiver.
Thank you for taking the time to help.
