M-3 Motorized Mercury II Blind Search Choice Set

Hi,

I have bought a M-3Motorized Mercury II Blind Search Choice Set.
It's been 4 days now that I have been trying to set this up and I cannot get this to work!
I think there is something with setting SM21H 22KHz switch with the receiver that I don't know.

My wiring setup is the following:
I am connecting receiver to the motor, motor to SM21H 22KHz switch, 2 ports of LNB (C & L) to switch.

However, I believe my receiver setup is not correct.

Could someone please let me know based on the contents package that comes withQPH031 Quad LNBF how should be the settings for DiSEqC on the receiver (The package does not come with a DiSEqC Switch; it comes with a SM21H 22KHz). Also, how about the settings for 0/22KHZ on the receiver? How about the port and other useful information?

One more thing: Do I need to tilt the LNB?

You have a complex system.

You can make things easier by doing one thing at a time.

Forget about the 22kHz switch for now.

Forget about circular polorization satellites for now.

Connect straight to a Linear connection on your LNBF. BUT before you do that, get a coax attached satellite signal meter like the following...

This signal meter will indicate that you have your dish pointed at a satellite and that your LNBF is working.

It is a very common problem to not have the dish pointed exactly right. The coax signal meter will indicate when you are pointed at a satellite which has Ku.

So that is the first step, get the dish pointed correctly and verify with a test device (coax signal meter) that you are in fact pointed at a satellite.

The signal meter(s) on the FTA receiver will not indicate ANYTHING unless you have the correct frequencies entered for the specific satellite your dish is pointed at.

Thanks for the tips.
I already have this satellite signal meter.
So my wiring should be the following...correct?

receiver -- satellite signal meter -- motor -- LNB's L port

or should I take out the motor?

I would attach the signal meter between the motor and the LNB.

These signal meters are great because they will indicate any Ku satellite (because you are using a KU LNBF).

When you have the dish adjusted correct height wise, you should be able to move your dish east/west and the needle on the meter should go up/down as it passes each satellite.

Once you are pointing at a satellite, then you can do a power scan on that satellite and probably get a few channels.

Then this is an exciting moment. Hey I got something!

Then figure out which satellite you got and make further adjustments from there.

Then you know everything is working basically, so then add in the 22 kHz switch to the mix. (do one thing at a time)

Hey Bill,

Thanks for all the helps...I was searching for IA5 and could get some channels from AMC4 sattelite (It is 4 degrees to the west of IA5)
The small problem is that they are too close to each other.
One, probably, dumb question:
My longitude is 97W along IA5's. I was trying to find IA5, but every time I got this AMC4 (having 101W longitude).
What I did was setting my own longitude to 101 (tricking the receiver) and then having the motor to browse to 97...This way I could get some breaking signals from IA5 ...Would this be a right thing to do?

Anyway tonight I will try again to have IA5 satellite to be my starting point since it is at my longitude.

Make sure the LNB Type is 10750 for the Linear side. The QPH031 is a standard LNBF not a Universal

What should it be for circular?

When I bring the 22KHZ switch into the picture I should turn on the 22KH; right?
Is there anything else I need to do?
Do I need to change the LNB to something more general in this case or it should stay at 10750?
