Home Ent Systems A home theater system is a combination of electronic components designed to recreate the experience of watching a movie in a theater. When you watch a movie on a home theater system, you are more immersed in the experience than when you watch one on an ordinary television.

Question DVD will not play.

This past week I have tried 3 different copies of Pursuit of Happiness and none of them will play on my JVC DVD/VCR recorder combo. I go through the previews, get the to main menu, and choose any option and the DVD hangs up. I tried it on one of my computers running Windows DVD 4.0 and it would not play. I tried it on my laptop running Windows DVD 5.0 and it played.

I know it is not my DVD player because I have watched several commerical DVDs this week. It is only this particular movie. I am wondering if it could be the copy protection my DVD play cannot get around. This is the first time I have ever run into a commercial DVD I could not play.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before?

Thanks,

I only rarely play DVDs, so I don't know much about copy protection, and don't know if this is likely or not, but I have had problems with a DVD player once whereby it was overly sensitive to DVDs that were out of balance. There were a few DVDs that just wouldn't play on this player. Normally wouldn't expect commercial DVDs to be out of balance, but you never know.

Cool Copy Protection

The particular DVD I was referring to is a Sony DVD. I checked their web site, lo and behold some of their movies releases had trouble playing on some DVD players. But guess what? They would not say which movies or which DVD players. They just said they had corrected the problematic DVDs would send you a replacement. Since I was renting that particular one, that does me no good.

I glad I found the solution to the problem and that it was not my DVD player. My wife was not happy at not getting to watch that movie. May be I should tell her it was the DVD and get me that new ATSC DVD/VCR recorder combo I am wanting.

Just thought you might like to know.

Secret keystrokes

BTW, Sony e-mailed me the secret keystrokes to make this DVD work. During the previews hit stop-stop-play and the dvd will skip directly to the movie. I am glad they e-mailed this to me, as I have had this issue show again on another Sony DVD.
