Can a Direct TV Dish be used to receive Dish programs
Fulltime MH and my roof dish is lost in most parks because of trees.
Just got a stand alone dish only, but when I got it home I find that
it is a dual DIRECT TV dish. My subscription is to DISH Network.
Does the dish care,, or do I need to return it?
Thank a bunch,
Zee

No, you can use it. Just align it to the DishNet satellites rather than the DirecTv sats.

re:
im using a DishNetwork dish to watch my DirecTV, and it works great =)
However, i had a question:
Is it possible to use the Nagravision Cam module with a DishNet card on the Satcruiser 2040 and be able to watch the encrypted channels if u are paying for them, or do you need a dish receiver? I wanted to try this, but it seems that it may be impossible...

Re: re:
The answer is NO.
DishNet requires to use their receiver.

not to be rude or anything, but have you tried it before? I mean, those cams are used for something... so why wouldnt it work? It just sounds like it should, since Dishnetwork uses Nagravision encryption..
please advise.
thanks!

Again, DishNet does not allow subscribers to user any third party receiver.

It has always been my opinion that if DishNetwork would start authorizing nagravision enable DVB receivers they could potentially increase their subscriber base substantially.
I wouldn't go out and buy a new setup just for Dish programing, but probably would subscribe if it was available via my current DVB setups.
(At least maybe to get the NHL center ice packages and such that aren't available to big dish users.)

Spyder,
You have a very good point, but it's not completely true...:-(
Dish hardware is free or it only costs very little $ if you sub to their service for a year.
Also, none of the DVB PCI has phone line which DN uses to communicate to the receivers.
Without phoneline, subcribers have to call them to order PPV. Too much hassle for them.

I think the reason EchoStar (DishNetwork) has their own receivers is twofold: first they have been building satellite receivers for decades -- the old Houston Trackers (C-Band) were built by EchoStar, so this company is no newbie to the consumer satellite world. Second, by building their own receivers they have better control over piracy. If any DVB receiver with a CAM slot and NagraVision encryption support could decode DishNetwork signals the rate of piracy would be higher than it is now. By building their own receivers EchoStar can implement proprietory technolgy unique to EchoStar hardware alone and not have to worry about "industrial espionage" when they license out their trade secrets to other manufacturers. The satellite company that probably does this best is General Instruments (now controlled by Motorola) -- they licensed their technology to nobody and to this day their encryption method (Digicipher II) has never been compromised; at least not publically.
Just my $ 0.02 worth...

It does not make any sense for DN to allow other receivers to use DN cards to subscribe to the service for the following reasons:
1- Technical support nightmare
2- Piracy
3- Lost revenues from hardware sales
4- Lost revenue for DN retailers and dealers
5- Training nightmare for installers.
6- etc, etc..
It is best to keep it the way it is. If interested in Dish Network services, let us know. Right now DN has great promotions"
1- Free hardware
2- Free delivery of hardware
3- Free installation
4- Your activation fee of $49.95 will be refunded the 1st month on your bill
5- If you choose the top 100 package plus HBO & Cinamx you will receive $50 credit on your bill each month for the first 3 months.
6- You can't find a better deal and it is much better than CABLE.
Call us if you are interested.
888-519-9595 and ask about the Dish Network special.
If you sign up through us at Sadoun.com we will apply $25 credit towards your activation fee. That means your out of pocket expense is only $24.95.

Few clarification:
1. DirectTV is not DVB compliant.
2. Globecast receivers are able to tune to other FTA channels as users want.
