    Signal strength

I have an older system (5 year old model# 4000) that has been upgraded to a dish 500 set up. There are some trees about 150 feet from my dish location that are starting to obscure my line of site to the satellites. I can't do anything about the trees (my neighbors) and I don't have another location to put the dish (everything else is more obscured). I can no longer get a signal from 119w and only a very weak one from 110w. Would a larger dish help out in this situation? Any other suggestions to improve my signal strength? I really do not want to deal with the local cable company.

    Thanks for any input. Mark

Recently we had a situation similar to yours on Echostar 61.5 satellite. There is a very small opening between the trees to get the signal from the satellite. The trees are very tall and heavy with leaves. We changed the 18" (which does not get the signal at all) to a 36" dish. Even with a bigger dish the signal is weak (about 65-70) but the picture is good most of the time. I might post a picture of what I am talking about in a few days.

Now in your case, changing your dish to a bigger dish (30" or 36" dish) will help a lot. As long as there is a tiny opening between the tree branches for the signal to pass through, the new dish will grab it. Our dishes however are designed for receiving signal from one satellite. So you could use it for 119. I haven't tried it with two LNBFs like the DISH 500, but it might work. Can't confirm until I try. Maybe next week I will try it and report to the forum.

Thanks for the information. I was thinking I would get 2 dishes and set each one for optimum signal reception. Let's hear about is when you try the 2 LNBF's.

    Thanks, Mark
