I'm a dish/home theatre newbie, and I keep hitting a wall in 'getting what I want'. Just got an 811 receiver after waiting weeks on backorder, and now I find out (I didn't look close enough at Dish's offer) that their HD package does not include network channels! Is there an external antennea that I can point to Philadelphia (I live near Trenton NJ) that I can attach to my 811, using my 811 as an HDTV tuner?

any vhf/uhf antenna will work, just hook it up to the "8vsb antenna" connector, dont let anyone talk you into getting and HDTV antenna, a regular vhf/uhf antenna will work, im using a cheap 10$ antenna from radio shack and it works great

I think you misunderstand, Dish Network does not offer major network HD channels (well one, CBS, and they want $2.00 above their normal HD subscription, and THEN I have to replace my existing dish) so I thought that by adding a HD antennae I could get HD network offerings. I already have network channels via DIsh, just not in HD.
My question then is can the 811 also act as an HD tuner for an HD antennae?

yes, plug the vhf/uhf antenna into the 8vsb connector
Yes the 811 will act as a HDTV tuner for your local OTA channels. I use it all the time. PBS local here in Columbus OH has about 5 digital channels. In addition to all the networks.
